“They’re all getting pressure, and I understand it,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told the Athletic of the scramble the remaining eight schools are facing without the conference's biggest brands. “Their boosters and donors and board members are concerned, and I understand the concern. On the other hand, these are not things that happen very rapidly. The OU-Texas transition hasn’t happened quickly and our decisions in the wake of it are not going to happen quickly, either.

“But I feel like if the eight schools hang together, we will have good options going forward.”

Does the Pac-12 really have any interest in adding Kansas, a basketball school, or Lone Star State leftovers Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech or Fiesta Bowl champion Iowa State?

“We do not think expansion is required to continue to compete and thrive,” Kliavkoff said. “That said, the fallout from Texas and Oklahoma gives us an opportunity to once again consider expansion. We have already had significant inbound interest from many schools. We will work with our presidents and chancellors to evaluate these opportunities.”

If I were Bowlsby I would be looking for a job. The Big 12 was fatally wounded, It's simply a matter of time. If 4 more leave there is no conference, and are running for the door.

A conference loaded with G5 schools makes for a G6 conference. A couple of P4 schools in the mix will not change the game, just drag them down to the G6 level.

He was scheduled to retire as the current contracts expire.

If the remaining schools stay together through 2024 and collect fees, then he'd be finished anyways.

Now that Texas and Oklahoma are leaving that will mean that half of the original members have left. It just shows you how much interest member institutions and the networks have had in this conference. If the big 12 does survive it will be the big east all over again. The remaining 8 teams have one foot out the door hoping to get both feet out. When the Houston Chronicle broke the story it was pretty clear early on the story had legs. The problem now is we are in the fake news expansion cycle with every amateur wanna be sports writer posting BS just to get attention.

However if one school remains in this Delaware corporation, it will still exist and monies will be owed if one school remains. They still have the right to sue as well.

guessing they'd add some schools if necessary to remain a conference.

One school has little chance of abstaining from a vote to dissolve a corporation and then trying to pursue successful litigation against other member schools who persevered in a vote to dissolve the conference, especially with ESPN's blessing.

One school cannot stand alone and say ,"Wait, I am still a conference, all of you that voted to leave must pay me hundreds of millions of dollars in damages." Then entice nine G5 and FCS schools to join them to preserve the Big 12 and the contract with ESPN and Fox.

Buckaineer. perhaps we should simply agree to disagree on this one. It's probably irrelevant and I respect you too much to allow it to become an issue. All we can really do anyway is sit back and watch it all play out. Deal? Even if you're correct it will not change anything, I believe the schools intend to finish out the contract anyway.
