Arkansas 12-12
Alabama 12-12
MSU 10-13
Ole Miss 10-13
Auburn 10-13
LSU 8-16

Next week, we play Ole Miss as everyone knows. Alabama and Auburn play each other we well. Hopefully Auburn will win that series and we hopefully win ours- admittedly not an easy task on the road. Arkansas plays South Carolina. Hopefully the Gamecocks will nut up and actually help us out. LSU has UT- they could climb back into it with a sweep, but I think it's kind of a longshot at this point for them.

Also, nice job by our team of getting the sweep on the road. It was good to see us take care of business for once.

No matter what happens down the road as long as we stay at least tied with Auburn we are in the SEC tourney since we own the tiebreaker over them.

Realistic best case scenario:

Auburn needs to take 2 of 3.
South Carolina takes 2 of 3
We take 2 of 3
Tennessee takes 1 of 3

We go into the final weekend looking like this:
ARK 13-14
ALA 13-14
MSU 13-14
AUB 13-14
UM 12-15
LSU 10-17

Of course, a swep of Ole Miss, a South Carolina sweep of Arkansas - all help. The only sweep we don't want to happen is AUB-ALA. An Alabama sweep would be a disaster.

ARK hosts Ole Miss, Alabama hosts USC, Auburn goes to Tennessee and LSU comes to Starkville the last weekend.

because Alabama is ahead of us. If we end up tied with Auburn, we hold the tie breaker over them.

Alabama ends with South Carolina. Auburn ends with these guys we just swept. Don't want to be a game back of Auburn heading into the final weekend.

I think we'll be ok either way with Auburn or Alabama, but I'd rather have Bama win. Really, I don't care much who does it, but one of the teams needs to sweep the other. Bama is effectively 2 games ahead of us, and Auburn is one behind. Bama will probably lose the SC series, and Auburn will probably win the UT series.

Main thing we have to do is to beat Ole Miss. That'll put us ahead of them, and it'll give us the tie breaker.

Now, if we're going to win the west, yeah, we need Auburn to win, hopefully 2-1.

I just want to make sure we get back in the dang tourney after missing it for several years so I want Auburn to lose as much as possible. Winning the West just doesn't mean much to me when it would still only put us at best 4th place in the overall standings and more likely 5th.

If so, I'd much rather play as the 2 seed than as the 5/6/7/8 seed. A 2 seed puts us against an Alabama/Auburn/UM type team... a 5/6/7/8 seed get us UGA/UF/USC/Vandy/ARK probably.

and the winner of the other division gets the 2 seed. 3 through 8 fall in place no matter the division.

making sure there are 4 teams behind us in the standings. That's all that really matters at this juncture. With 3 already behind us, the next best candidate will be UM or AU. Either or both of these need to lose as much as possible. Then everything else will fall into place. Just making Hoover is all that is important right now.

and both of them have sweeps over KY, the one team we don't get to play. Still ticks me off when I think about it.

OK, I got that off of the back of my t-shirt from Hightower my freshman year at State.

But, we're only one game back with two weeks to play. We might as well go for it. Besides, I figure if we go for that and don't get it odds are pretty good that we will still end up in the SEC Tournament.

I believe to take 2 of 3 AT Mississippi, we will have to win the first one. Lose that one, and they will probably take 2 of 3.

MSU definitely has something to play for with the SEC tourney in the picture, but now, with their big series win this weekend, the rebears have more riding on it because:

1) They are playing at home, probably in front of 9,000 plus.
2) They are playing for their Tourney lives.
3) Their baseball team is carrying the banner for their entire athletics program against MSU this year...seeing that they haven't beaten MSU in anything significant.

Simply put, had South Carolina taken care of their business and swept, the rebears would have been playing out the string. Now they have renewed life.

But I think Ole Miss would come out ready to play no matter what their situation would have been.

One good thing is they haven't seen Pollerena or Reed yet. We didn't have to use them in the Governor's Cup.

But I do agree- if we take the first game, it makes winning the series a lot easier for us. And that's why I think it's important that they haven't seen Pollorena yet- because he is going to pitch that first game. They don't know how he is going to attack their hitters.

We also got three 5+ inning starts from our starters this weekend. I hope that they can carry that over into their next start.
