Where was the defensive pressure we were promised?

one of our supposed strengths was the d line, or at least, it was billed as one of our biggest defensive improvements. they went totally unnoticed against an extremely green o-line. that is a HUGE problem moving forward. HUGE. if we cant bring a 4/10 on the heat scale vs a brand-new reworked osu oline and one that had to re-shuffle last minute, our worlds are going to melt down vs sec experienced o lines.

zero pressure against a very uniexperienced line should scare the **** out of every last one of us especially when this offseason was full of promise of aggression and intensity.

thats probably one of the most inexperienced lines we face all year and we cant even capitalize. its going to be another season of low sack numbers, few tfl's, and poor 3rd down conversion rates. better get ready. IT is coming.

Chris Jones knocked down the QB on his first collegiate play.

The D played lights out until it was obvious our offense would never score again. We got them in some 3 & outs. Held them to FG attempts. We dropped some INTs, which sounds bad but it is great they were in position to cause INTs.

How many other teams have held OSU to 21 points the last 3-5 years?

Our D played great. If they played like that all season (and got more disciplined on the option play they couldn't contain late), I would be thrilled.

You must have bumped your head, because you're complaining about the wrong side of the ball.

We brought a lot of pressure in the first half however...

it definitely seemed that after Hughes and Love went out that we lost our nerve in bringing extra guys on the blitz. Maybe we didn't want to expose our secondary without our best back there? I don't know.

Pressure was good 80% of first half. Throw 8-10 more first downs in for us and..

the D could have caught their breath and kept up the pressure. They simply were on the field too much after the 1st quarter.

We have real issues rushing the passer with the front 4 again this year. D play alright, they weren't great. Better than last year, but we got ALOT of help in the first half. More than everyone wants to admit. Once they got it clicking, there wasn't much we could do.

Maybe once Quay gets in, he'll add some pressure up the middle which can be more disruptive. That might help us with the read option some as well. Autry won't be keeping many OC's up at night.

Once again, defense wasn't the problem. Offense was. Redirect your frustration elsewhere.

look, we all know the offense is the reason we didnt win, but i would like to discuss specifics about the defense...particularly, the lack of pressure. if we cant muster pressure on an offensive line that is replacing 4 starters with a starting left tackle out due to injury, im not sure we can ever expect any pressure against anybody that is better than maybe bowling green?

im simply calling ******** on anyone and everyone that said we would have a much different looking defense....words that i myself have spoken...but i spoke them based on what our camp was saying and what we were told. bottom line, our camp is full of ****. we got zero pressure and im pissed i bought in to that garbage. we were dooped. our defense didnt blitz any more than we did last year and certainly didnt get creative. the highlight was townsend's coaching on display holding that offense to 146 total yards with an extremely depleted secondary. sure, collins should get some of that credit as well, but he is responsible for the 286 we gave up on the ground and inability to seal the defensive edge and solely responsible for the lack of defensive pressure.

talk to be about their offensive line. i want to hear an explanation as to why the most inexperienced lines we will see this whole season was able to totally nullify our defensive rush and run penetration. talk about them and how they were able to negate our alleged aggression that we were going to bring to them and one that collins had been masterminding all spring and summer. we were soft and they put together some very long drives...so its not like they were dealing with a short field all night. their td drives were 69, 75, and 82 yards.

in your opinion, can we expect the same type of performance the rest of the season? i already know the answer. its yes. nothing about that offensive line should scare us and nearly every qb we face this year will be as good as their 2nd option at qb. thats the take away point. a low end oline nullified our "new and improved" defense. we will face much better qbs and much, much better olines this season. that should keep us all up at night, so lets not stick our head in the sand on the lack of pressure issue. its going to be a constant thorn in our side until we find a solution.

Our defense was good the first quarter and half or so but they got no rest from our ******* pathetic offense. Our defense was for all intents and purposes on the 17'ing field the entire 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter.

Either reword your questions or just stop talking about the D. You're making yourself look foolish. State had the sack a few times and let the QB off the hook. State basically shut down their pass game, which was their strength. State lost 2 starters in the first half. No way you put gased, 2nd-3rd string DBs on an island in order to blitz.

The better observation is that if we don't have a 2007 defense, we're not winning 6 games. State has better talent than than but the same offensive futility.
