I think Pat Washington has done a very good job with our receivers since he's been here. Their improvement has been remarkable. Melvin Smith is a master recruiter in this area, and I hope the new coach sees that.

Harbison I am up in the air on. That egg he laid in the Egg Bowl doesn't bode well for him. The rest can hit the door as far as I'm concerned.

But we need to completely clean house. A completely new regime with a new mindset needs to takeover the football offices.

All I ever hear about Melvin Smith is how great of a recruiter he is. Anyone ever thought he might of been the reason our corners got burnt all year long. Know someone who works for the team, he says he is the worst coach we have, and that all he does if repeat the exact same thing Cheese says, like an echo. Washington should stay, look at all the success he had at Tennessee, even if it was partly Peyton Manning.

I'd heard from several sources that Melvin wasn't much of a coach, but is a good recruiter so maybe he holds on for one year in some capacity. Apparently Cheese is a very good recruiter as well and I thought he did a good job with the safeties in 2007 so maybe he can stay as a position coach at least if he wants.

I don't see more than 1-2 being retained for one year transition guys though.

Ben Pollard - Strength Coach
I have been nothing but impressed with him every where he has been, and he held the team together at bama after fran left.

None of them. Let them all go.

As far as Washington, didn't we have something like 10 drops vs Bama or something crazy like that? Our WR's don't impress me. They run sloppy routes, never get separation, they can't block, and if they do they hold the guy.

Melvin may be a good recruiter but I want everything associated with this cluster<17> to be removed far away from dear old State.

He's the one that landed our best and we can find something for him to do. He bleeds maroon and don't judge him based on the Bama game. We may need him to keep some of these "big" boys. I think Melvin is done.

Why would you want to keep any of our coachs? They know nothing but how to loose, and I dont know why anyone would want that looser attitude around when we are trying to turn our football team around...the only people related to the football team that should stay are Jack Crystal and that 6'5 black ball guy that busts his a$$ to get the kicking tee off of the field

Melvin hasn't recruited worth a damn since he got back from A&M. He was a good recruiter under the old style of recruiting in the delta. As for a secondary coach, we can do a hellva lot better there too. I would keep cheese and sever the ties with the rest of this group. As far as Ben Pollard goes, I'm not sure what happened this year, but it looked as if we were not in great shape or even looked like a football team was suppose to look like. I kept thinking it was maybe the uniforms we were wearing that just made us look bad in a uniform.

That's just not true. Both Smith and Washington have played a part in winning programs before.

True they might have won else where but they havent done anything but consistantly put up L's in the win/loss coloumn. Why not get a hole new staff and a fresh new attitude while we have the chance

Smith played a very big part in some of the most successful teams we've ever had at State. I don't see the point in discounting the few positives that we already have in place purely for the sake of "change." I'm sure that the new coach won't keep more than two people, and Washington and Smith would be good ones to keep.

i've never once mentioned inside sources on this board, but i know for a fact that stringer did not tell the mcadams to kick the ball to arenas. he was protecting his player, bottom line. he's a good recruiter and croom didn't exactly give him options for new punters or kickers. i think he and melvin smith should stay

this is the opportunity to start fresh. continuity from this cluster of a program might be a quick fix to a few problems but in the long run it could bite us in the ***. wholesale change is the key in my opinion.
