Which NFL player will come out of the closet?

So apparently there's a player who's going to come out in the next few months and continue playing this fall. The article says "The player fears he will suffer serious harm from homophobic fans, and that is the only thing preventing him from coming out."

Am I the only one suspecting Tebow? Never been romantically linked to anyone, even though literally 10,000 women in Gainesville would have gladly gone out with him. Make it 100,000 for Denver and 1,000,000 for NYC. Plus, Tebow is pretty unique in having a disproportionately anti-gay personal fanbase, so I can see why he might want to hide it.

Really it could be anyone who comes from a conservative religious background, but the concern over the fans makes me suspect it's someone prominent with a reason to think most of his fans will abandon him.

It's not Tebow. Believe it or not, the guy does date around, it's just buried in the national news. He's in The Post a lot of times with random women at some $75 an entree restaurant. I honestly think he just has some crazy standard and isn't finding it with random celebrities.

It's going to be someone random like a lineman none of us have ever heard of. I think it's a little extreme to think people will care... The Suns' owner is flamboyant and it hasn't done anything one way or another since he came out.

Probably tebow but i dont get the big deal. There are 33 teams, there are 53 players on each team. That means there are 1749 players in the nfl. Since 3.4% of the population is gay, that means there are probably 55 nfl players that are homosexual.

Im sure whoever plans on coming out...it prob wont shock his teammates. I assume that a lot of team members are aware of most the others sexual preferance.

As usual, there's so much fail in this post that its not even worth trying. As for the original intent of the thread, Troy Palamalu (sp?), Adrian Peterson, and Cam Newton came to mind first.

While there's a lot of good sense in this post, I don't get the desperate hope that it's Tebow. Why? Just bc he seems to be a squeaky clean Christian who seems to actually walk the walk? Why does that lead to so many people hating him and rooting against him? It's odd. Not necessarily saying you're one of those people, but you're just the third or fourth person in this thread that seems so certain it's him so I picked this one to respond to.

Even after a terrible year for tebow, he's still big news. Does anyone really believe that if tebow told any reporter he was considering coming out of the closet that reporter would keep it quiet? There's no chance.

I don't think the NFL is a microcosm of the populace ...

in this regard or most any other. They just don't represent the typical American.

Nicely said. That's it. While the math may not add up because of choices to play professional sports the intent is spot on.

But it will be a big deal...and if it happens to be Tebow, it'll be an even bigger deal.

I actually finally read the article. It is mind-boggling to me that no major league athlete has come out of the closet, while in their career. In 2013, that blows my mind. How is that even possible. Not one athlete in any major 3 sport....ever

Here's my question

What does it matter? Why is the media so obsessed with homosexuals? Is sticking his Richard in another mans pop chute what defines this person? "Oh hey America look! He has anal sex with other guys and plays football. How wonderful!!!!"

How about the dude just keep his sex life private and talk about his football. Good grief America!!!
