MSU trying to keep a bowl streak going or OM trying to avoid a disappointing 7-5 finish?

It's bigger for us. They're going to a bowl game either way and the Egg Bowl is on the road so you're supposed to lose anyway. It's the difference between a bowl and a losing season for us.

I would agree if we had Dak Prescott playing at 100%. It's tough for me to get too bent out of shape if we lose after starting a 3rd string true freshman QB.

Injuries are part of the game. It's still the difference between a bowl and a losing season, plus the Egg Bowl is at home. We're supposed to win. I've got a lot of confidence in Damian Williams.

So, you think MSU fans are going to be more pissed if they lose on Thursday than OM fans will be since it's in Starkville?

Some injuries at certain positions, yes. However, injuries to your first and second string QBs are crippling to most teams.

I like Damian a lot but have not seen anything yet that would indicate that he can lead us an entire game and beat a pretty good team.

I think the difference between a bowl and a losing season is bigger than the difference between 8-4 and 7-5. It's a huge game for both of us and it always will be. And yes, MSU fans will be pissed if we lose. I know I will be.

But will you be MORE pissed than OM fans? I feel like there is more pressure on OM to win this game.

Us as far as the program is concerned.

I think looking at it individually and considering our injuries - it might be a bigger game for Ole Miss.

Us, and if you don't belive me, ask some OM fans. The ones I have talked to are already down playing the game, and talking about how bad Bo had the flu Saturday and hasn't gotten any better yet.

I refuse to believe any of them will be more pissd off than me with a loss.

Big game doesn't just apply to who will be more pissed with a loss. It also covers who will be more elated with a win. And a bowl game would be HUGE for us, just like it was for them last year. Also, if we win UM will be able to rationalize it that they had a better season and it was on the road.

With teams like Tennessee and Florida out of the running for bowls....

does the Egg Bowl even affect which bowl they go to? They may be basically locked in like we were last year.

This is basically true. But, I doubt that most Ole MIss fans feel that way. I feel like most Ole Miss fans understand that this is a very important game for Freeze. First, and most importantly, every coach at Ole Miss and State from now until the end of time are going to be graded by how they perform in this game. Secondly, Ole Miss fans understand that State is down this year, and at 5-6 and likely starting a 3rd string QB, it is imperative that we win this game, on the road or not.

The momentum this game will have on each program going into the offseason cannot be understated. The Egg Bowl was a HUGE stepping stone for Freeze last year and directly attributed to some of the offseason recruiting success, ticket sales, etc.

Also, please note, I did not take any shots at Mississippi State. Just offering my meager opinion on the subject, haha.

I agree with this guy. I think there is more pressure on OM to win Thursday's game - that has to make it a bigger game, doesn't it?

I think this EB is a lot bigger to OM than it looks like on the surface. Win and their "program on the rise" is now on the cusp of competiting with the big boys in the West, having clearly passed MSU and Ark. Lose, and what do they have to show? We still won't even feel that great about our season but they'll be right below us at 5th and 6th in the West. Suddenly their "program on the rise" really isn't.

To me, that's more significant than us going to a bowl with our big win being over a team that could finish 7-6. Does nothing to change the sentiment that Mullen can't beat top teams.
