Which would you most want to see from MSU athletics in 2014?

1. Football - 10 wins and Cotton/Outback/Capital One bowl

2. Baseball- a return to Omaha with a deep run but no national title

3. Basketball- an NCAA berth

4. A national title in some women's sport

Option 1...

With the players we have coming back and the way our schedule sets up, this is our chance.

Win 10 games and finish strong with recruiting in 2015 (its already looking promising) and our program will be in the strongest position it has ever been, without question.

2. I enjoyed the past baseball season more than any footbal season I can remember. You get to enjoy baseball 3-4 times a week while you only see 1 football game a week.

Throw out 3 and 4. Not even options for me. As for 1 or 2 I guess it depends on what the alternative is. If a deep run in Omaha means the football team is 6-6 at best next year then I would take the ten win football team. If a ten win football season meant a baseball team that lost in the regionals then give me the baseball scenario. Now, if a deep Omaha run and the football team wins 8 games and goes to the chick fil-a bowl I'll take the Omaha run. If the football team can win ten and the baseball team makes a super regional or Omaha with quick exit then give me the ten win football team.

Each to his own, but I'd rather have #1 if that's the only one we can have. But #2 is a close second, after last year. That was fun.

Don't care that much about basketball myself, and couldn't care less about women's sports. That's just the way it is.

#1 way more than the others.

I'm pretty much indifferent between #2 and #3. Outside die hard fans of the sport, neither 2 or 3 gets you much recognition and basically nobody remembers a baseball team simply for making a deep run or a basketball team just for making it into the tournament. I'd take a sweet 16 basketball finish over a number 2 in the nation baseball finish.

#4 doesn't even register. I want all MSU teams to be successful, but winning a women's national championship doesn't do that much for the university. I know that Tennessee and UConn have both won women's basketball championships, but I can't tell you when they were and I can't name another women's national championship in any other sport.

#1 and not even close. It would take a national title in 2 or 3 to change my mind.

#4 who really cares about a national championship in home ec? **

10 wins is special in football. That clearly over anything else. If it were 9 football wins vs a regular season SEC Championship in baseball with an appearance in Omaha, then I'd pick baseball. The SEC Championship in baseball would be nice.

Regarding baseball--I'm close to expecting a return to Omaha. Not demanding it or that I will be angry if we don't make it to Omaha, but hoping and almost expecting to at least get there. It would have to be another trip to the finals to pass 1, 3, or 4.

An NCAA berth in baskeball only if we earned it through regular season wins and not an SEC tourney title. These days you need 22 or 23 wins to make the NCAA tourney, and that actually would be pretty cool for this team/coach.

I don't follow women's sports hardly at all, but a national title in bigger women's sport like basketball would be pretty cool, too. I wouldn't care about women's archery or anything like that.

So 10 wins in football over everything. Only 9 wins in football and it would be a tough choice for 1, 2, 3, or 4 (with my changes above). Still maybe football. Maybe. If only 8 wins in football I'd take my #2, 3, or 4.

i see everyone else piling on #1 as some magical elixir. if we get 10 and one of those bowls, i want to win that bowl. it sucked making it to the cotton bowl just to have the doobie brother run it down our throats.

#2 - could care less, baseball isn't entertaining unless it makes it to omaha.
#3 - right now, i'd be happy with getting some players that can shoot free throws, but a real goal to mean anything would be sweet 16.
#4 - pipe dream, and would we even know?

#2. Baseball continually making a run in Omaha is our best chance in my lifetime to see MSU win a national championship in a big three sport. We were a pipe dream final inning in game 2 plus 9 more innings away this summer. Think about that for a second. Let's build a 17ing dynasty.

Amen. I don't keep up with mlb anymore but there's nothing like having us being successful in baseball. Maybe it's because some of my best childhood memories are of me and my dad grilling out and listening to msu baseball all weekend.

Amen. Amen. Amen. Plus we have the ability to get to 10 wins in football without really beating any top-tier teams next year. Lame.... The only way I would trade a trip to Omaha for a successful football season next year would be if we won the SEC championship game. The Cotton Bowl? Meh......Meh..Meh..Meh...... Last year's baseball season was FUN....probably the most fun I've ever had watching a Mississippi State athletic team ever. I would be highly disappointed if we don't at least get back to Omaha this season. A national championship is a real possibility within the next 3 years in baseball, and it doesn't seem like such a pipe-dream anymore. If small schools like Rice and Fresno State can win it, then why can't we?

Football National Title > Baseball National Title > Football SEC Championship > Omaha Appearance > Women's Sport National Title > NCAA Basketball Tourney Appearance

I really couldn't care less about basketball or women's sports. I only follow the basketball team if they are in the NCAA tournament, and sometimes not even then.

Baseball. I'd like to see us still do well and return to Omaha. I think if we do that, we really show recruits we're a solid baseball school. I've had no doubts we were moving in the right direction since we were barely ousted by Florida in 2010(?). I'd like to be known as the place you go if you want to be a pro pitcher, as well.

I like baseball better than most other sports, though. Football is a close second.
