I'd like to nominate my replacement for Mark Hudspeth. MSU's very own Bernard Euell. His qualifications- he played WR at MSU and he coaches at Madison Central right now. I think he would potentially do a good job and I bet he could recruit the Jackson Metro area pretty well. He also played at Jim Hill, so I think he may be an asset for inner city Jackson as well. He's young which is a good thing, and his only drawback is a lack of college experience, but let's give him a chance, and if he sucks, we'll just fire him.

if Hud is one thats gone, and thats only b/c of what I have read here, we need to move Knox to WR coach. Up until this yr, thats the only position he has coached and he did a pretty good job at Auburn according to a AU friend. He was actually shocked that he would be RB for us and not WR coach. He was also Recruiting Coordinator while at AU and at um I think.

at the college level should be a damn good recruiter. Hud is more than capable of coaching the WRs. So would anybody on the current staff. If you read Sherril's article on BDJ, he talked about certain coaches being strong recruiters any finding them a spot to coach. WR coach is such a spot, along with cornerbacks, tight ends, or RBs.

I think you need at least 3 strong recruiters on the staff and I'd hide them at TE, RB and Safeties coaches. Your OL coach has to be a tough guy that the OL respects and also very good at teaching technique. Same for your DL coach. Your WR coach if you're a team that wants to throw the ball I think needs to be someone that can really teach routes. I think this gets overlooked a lot for some reason but most young WR have no idea how to properly run a route. Those that do tend to excel in college. CB is also a heavy technique position. I really think OL/DL/WR/CB benefit from being coaches by guys who played the position at a high level, but that's not always a must. DC gets LB's and OC gets QB's.

Think about it - our WR's have always struggled but when's the last time we thought we had a guy who could really teach the position?

At MSU it's important to have some good recruiters, but given the reality that we're never going to sign classes full of 4-star guys it's also important to have some guys who can really coach up some of the rawer athletes we sign.

I wouldn't count on Knox being here after this year. I'm don't say that because of any problems between him and Mullen, but as soon as Tuberville gets another job he will hire Knox to go with him. That may or may not be this year, but it will happen eventually.
