WOW

"Everyone told Vince Young and Michael Vick the NFL would be easy. They'd revolutionize the QB position with their legs, and they could pop bottles, roll with a posse and pretend to be Jay-Z in their spare time."

Lots of good points, and he gives props to McNabb for changing his game and becoming a real pocket passer.

is coming to Key Arena December 1st.....can't wait dude.

The problem I have with Whitlocks article, is why is it a black/white thing? Why does he even have to bring up that issue at all? Did Heath Schuler and Ryan Leaf fail because they entered the league with a posse and a bad upbringing because they are black? A bad QB is a bad QB regardless of race, and there are plenty of examples of overhyped QBs failing at the NFL level, white and black. To say that it has something to do inherently with his race or how he grew up is just an insipid assumption made only to generate traffic. Jason Whitlock writes these shock jock articles all the time, it's nothing new.

He was specifically addressing the quarterback position and the recent struggle of a extremely successful African-American college quarterback adapting his skills to the NFL. He cites one huge success, McNabb, and one huge failure, Vick. The article is SPECIFICALLY about black quarterbacks in the NFL, a relatively recent norm that has emerged in the NFL. Whitlock is concerned about the struggles of his race and the struggles of black family values. By addressing Vince Young's struggles in the NFL with his personal concerns about his race, he reaches a far wider audience than those that would normally hear his message. His article is his personal social opinion and belief that he wants to communicate to others by using McNabb, Vick, and Young as an example. Whitlock refuses to ignore the difference in culture among the races. Is there anything wrong with that?

Jason Whitlock is on a crusade to convince black people that in order to rise above the injustices of the past, they're going to have to work hard for it themselves and not just claim everyone is racist and look for handouts. He is strongly opposed to rap music and the violence it glamorizes. He also believes that none of this can change until the number of black children who don't know their dads is drastically reduced. All of these are good points.

The problem is, he makes everything about this. I used to really enjoy his NFL column every week, but now it's never about anything but race. He's made his point; we get it. I understand he's going to come back to it every now and then, but does everything have to tie back to the follies of his race?

was pretty successful as an NFL QB. The only reason he is out of the league right now is because he is in jail.

He'll be back with the Raiders. I believe Vick gets out of jail just in time for training camp and just in time that the Raiders can conveniently cut JaMarcus Russell.

When you use it on this board, for example, is not exactly the best way to get your point across.

People like you and I are just different. I have a guy just like you that I work with, and we talk politics 2 or 3 times a week, and just can't seem to break down this imaginary "barrier" that most conservatives and liberals have between them. I can't honestly see how people like you think the way you do.

I'm sure you feel the same way. I'm curious to see what it is that makes you tick.

Americans love stories of redemption. Why do you think movies like Hoosiers and Rockey (all but part 5) were so popular? Vince Young has the talent. He just needs to get his head out of his ***.

His articles - both of them - also happen to be spot on when it come to Vince. You guys are missing the point. His immaturity - and his unwillingness to cut the ties to the boyz back in Houston - are leading to his downfall. They are in his ear saying "don't listen to that bs. You're VY. You're great. Can I have another Benjaman?" A guy like McNabb listened to people who had his team's best interests at heart. And who's going to be remembered as a good NFL QB?

was Steve McNair. McNair had a great career with the Titans after he figures out how to be a pocket passer. Part of that was because he had to find a way to stop getting injured, but I think he also knew that you can't survive in the NFL as a QB by just being strong and fast.

I'm sure that I'll get some flack for this since Vince is still only 25 years old or so, but Vince Young is a bust. Plain and simple. The Titans would do well to release him and move on. He hasn't improved one bit in three years, his mechanics are terrible, and he has no confidence at all. For a man that is supposed to be the leader of an NFL team, that last one is a bad trait to have.

I really feel bad for the guy and I actually blame the Titans to some extent for putting him in the situation, but the guy is just not an NFL starting QB and he never will be. I've never seen a QB at this level struggle so much to hit a receiver 10 yards fown the field. If you're not going to let Young run, he shouldn't be playing QB.

Good as McNabb is (and I think he's an underrated QB), McNair was one of the best in the league in his prime. And he had to basically learn to play QB from scratch in the NFL, because he didn't have the benefit of good college coaching like McNabb, Young, and Vick had.
