I would do this. I would deport ALL illegal alien felons. I would ask all non-felons to register for a Green Card. If they hold a job, speak English, pay a fine and don't use government assistance, I would grant their Green Card request and legalize them. I would never give them a pathway to citizenship since they broke our laws by coming into the country illegally while those obeying our laws spend a great deal of money and time doing it right.

I think granting them the path to amnesty is the way to go, but sure...I'm up for it.

As I said, they entered our country illegally. They disobeyed our laws. Others did it right. They spend a lot of money and a lot of time waiting.

Their children born here are obviously citizens and able to vote. But not those that came illegally. That, in my opinion, is the price they pay for their illegal entry. Frankly, I don't think they'd mind at all if they get that Green Card.

The vast majority of illegals are hard working and good people. Let them stay and earn their way to citizenship. As long as they pay taxes they should have the right to benefits.

I think it could be Aggravated Felonies. But if a felony is committed and pushing drugs are involved, I would definitely deport them as well. But if a guy is caught smoking dope, even if that is a felony, it would not deserve deportation.

No question that is true. I hope with a Green Card, no one can take advantage of them and keep their pay artificially low. It depresses wages for other workers. I see it everyday in Texas in construction, for example.

I know they are. They don't take away high paying jobs. They do the crap that Americans won't touch. They contribute way more than some of the nutz can imagine. All 82 can mention is the drain on society caused by illegals not considering the savings at the cash register we enjoy, the sales taxes and fees they pay, and the millions of dollars of goods they consume. Let them stay and give them citizenship in 5 years if they earn it

I'd agree with this as long as they can't vote...not until they become citizens.
Also no Public assistance until either citizenship status, or all fines for violating our Laws are paid.

Pay for their own Health care, or bill their native country, pay for public schools through tuitions, no food stamps, no housing assistance, restricted Driver licenses (no voting stamped across it)

Can't vote...not until citizenship, and then not until all fines are paid, they learn English, pass a civics test on our Constitution, hold a job, and remain crime free. Commit a crime, immediate deportation, no questions asked, can't come back.

C'mon ... we're smart guys, we can figure this **** out. I keep getting more and more convinced that there's a core group on this board that can do better than what we've had for the last 15-20 years.

DD said felonies, I'd say that's certainly an easy line to draw. I would imagine there are some misdemeanor charges as well that we could throw in there. Possession of certain drugs (I really really really dont' care at all about people with pot, but meth, heroin, etc. gotta go), misdemeanor DUI's, things like that maybe. Some stealing charges don't rise to the level of felonies, but we don't need thieves (there are enough of those in our government).
