If you had 3 or 4 names of Coaches you would like to see Scott call/interview who would they be???

Mine are

1. Gregg Marshall- Wichita St.
2. Kenny Payne- Assistant at Kentucky
3. Bryce Drew- Valpo
4. Steve Wojciechowski- Ast. Duke

I'd love Shaka Smart, but I have been told his asking price is WAY too high ($2.5mil)

You have bitched about us talking about assistant coaches for the basketball position and then you name two assistants in the list that you would interview.

You're not going to find many experienced coaches period that have as good of a record as Stans

However, Alford would bring discipline, fundamentals, and defense.

<div>Like Shaka or Steve Prohm.</div><div>
</div>We need to make an improvement with this hire. Hiring someone we know isn't any better isn't how to do that.

and only twice in 5 years at New Mexico. Calling him a terrible hirewas an overstatement. He would be a pretty safe hire. We'd probably get about the same on-court results we got from Stans in the last 7 years, but without a lot of the drama and embarrassment. We wouldn't suck, but he wouldn't take us to the next level either. Now that I think about it, that wouldn't be so terrible after all.

Does he have ties to the South? Has he ever coached in the SEC? Was he successful as a head coach?

As far as I know the answer is No to all 3 questions. </p>

Alford is not at Iowa anymore correct? If you are going to say he's a great fit there, I'm thinking you may want to revisit that comment. Alford would be a good hire...a homerun? Maybe not, but he'd bring a lot of things to this program we have been missing as mentioned above. Recruiting would be my concern.

he's not a great fit at MSU.

My one concern when we fired Stans was the lack of quality replacements. Assuming we don't get Smart or Marshall, I haven't seen one name mentioned that gets me excited.

But if you don't know where Steve Alford is coaching, I suspect there might be several names that you've never heard of who would be good candidates.

In a wad since his favorite team the duke blue chokers, choked last nite. Your post was not wrong. It answered his question. I thought he had MOD powers and I guess that proves he does. Just remember though, he is wrong, granted not very often.

Is that you have entered numerous threads here spewing all sorts of basketball coaching candidate wisdom, shooting down this guy and advocating that guy. Meanwhile, when you were sort of exposed that you didn't know where a former All-American, with a National Championship as a player, a former head coach at Iowa in the Big Ten, who is currently about to take his current team (New Mexico for the record)onto the floor to play Louisville in the NCAAtourney. you got a little JR High-ish with the name calling etc. If I were you, I'd think I'd hang up and listen.

you also misinterpreted my other post. See noxdog's reply. Just to clarify since you are clearly interested, I probably know more about SteveAlford than anyone on this board since I read his book about playingforKnight. My point was that he was a perfect fit at Iowa (even though it didn't work out) or a Big 10 school with his style of coaching and style of play. I think it's a horrible fit at MSU. Carry on with the recommendations of Brad Stevens, Steve Alford, Wojo and Chris Collins.
