Anybody seen this? Supposedly from Yancy.

**We spoke to a pro scout yesterday (he asked me to not reveal his name so I will not) at practice, and I asked him what he thought about the overall talent at Ole Miss. He looked at me like was this a trick question orsomething.

He responded, Ole Miss has 13 players I am looking at today, and the only school in the country that has more is LSU, and they have 15. Alabama had 9 players he was looking at. Auburn has 4 (ouch).

I asked him what was considered "elite", and he responded that anyone with 10 or more has the talent to win it all. That is usually the bench mark year in and year out.

I responded, what does Southern Cal have this year, and he responded, 11.

The scout told me that Coach Orgeron did a great job at getting the talent here, and now they have a staff to take it to the next level because they are proven winners and proven recruiters. He said they will continue to recruit the players that are needed to win at an elite level because they are winning on the field and have proven recruiters to go get the job done.

He also thought Ol e Miss had better practice facilities than Alabama , which was very/very interesting. As he said to me, "all the pieces are at Ole Miss to win big and win big on a consistent basis".

Very/very interesting to get a neutral expert's opinion.

Who are their elite players and do we have any?

who said he talked to an NFL scout who said the same thing. The point of the post was that this season was going to prove that Nutt really does suck when coaching a frontrunner bc this scout told him Ole Miss had the most future NFL players in the SEC other than UF. The 13 draft eligible players on the roster who could make an NFL team could be: Jerry, Geralds, Lockett, Hardy, McCluster, Snead, Hodge, Lockett, Trahan, Lewis, Tillman, Eason, and Powe. None of those names are really a stretch. There was an SI.com article last year talking about how scouts really like Eason even though I think he sucks. If you think Powe's not the 13th it could be Cornell or Shene.

Maybe a few others. I don't think all of them are good enough to be scouted right now though. And I'd guess some other schools have a lot more than that. But I think all the ones I listed have a shot at playing at least a year in the NFL. They probably all won't, but none of them would shock me if they did.

Feel free to disagree.

All of those are either junior or senior starters who have either proven themselves already or are expected to be bigtime players this year (Trahan).

All of those will either be drafted or picked up by a team in free agency.

There are more (Vaughn, Walker, Neely) that have a chance.

If I'm not mistaken the rub on Nutt has been that he can't/doesn't recruit. I have no doubt he will have good recruiting seasons then next few years off the back of the success he is having with Orgeron's players but this is a fairly typical scenario of a great coach/average recruiter. I sure as hell hope Ole Miss isn't as good as I think they are going to be this year.

plus he had the good fortune of coaching at U of A during a time period that produced 2 phenomenal athletes from the HS ranks in Ark. (Matt Jones and Baby Daddy).

Adding to that, he never had any in-state competition, either, not like he does now. State, USM, LSU, Bama, even UT getting in there...that's a different ballgame than going head to head with A-State. He's a damn good football coach, though.

You left out the fact that Nutt's first two classes at Ole Miss are similar to Orgeron's as far as rankings go. The only difference is that Nutt didn't run most of his first class off like Orgeron. So it stands to reason that Nutt won't have a fall off in talent like you seem to believe.

You also have to consider that even if it is Orgeron's talent that Nutt rides to a successfull season, that it should translate into higher ranked recruiting classes. I can assure you that very few OM fans are disappointed with Nutt's first two classes.

You buy into the Northwest Arkansas excuse if you'd like. They can say what they want about Nutt letting Kodi Burns and Mitch Mustain get away. The on field results prove them wrong and Nutt right. Those people from Arkansas are just justifying firing Nutt to themselves. I remember OM fans doing it after we fired Cut. I remember MSU fans doing it aftre firing Jackie. The story is always that the last guy left no talent. It's an excuse that you set up for your new coach. Jackie's talent and Cut's talent weren't the real problem.

Regarding the scout story...I have no doubt that Yancy will stretch the truth, but Dave Childers at Rivals also spook with this scout. Childers said the guy said he was there to scout several OM players, but he never mentioned a number. Like the others said though, I could easily find 13 players that are juniors or seniors who will be NFL worthy whether through free agency or the draft.

My point still remains.

Obviously our OOC schedule is weak. But the fact still remains that anyone in the SEC does not have an easy schedule.

Much less a powder puff.

Matter of fact, Phil Steele say's it the weakest overall schedule of the 64 BSC teams, by 5 spots.

getting the top 2 opponents from the West at home and not playing the top 2 teams in the East, plus all 4 SEC road games are against teams that will struggle to have a winning record...

thats a nice schedule when you couple it with the best team you guys have had in the last 40 years

I know you wouldnt want LSU's schedule- @Georgia, @Bama, @oxford, and home to Fla....that one isnt conduscive to winning an SEC title

It's not like the SEC is the Sun Belt. Either division you're in has tough teams like LSU or Bama in the West and Florida and Georgia in the East and the weaker teams in the SEC are all at least respectable enough that you can't overlook them.

The bowl games don't look at SOS- maybe the BCS does, but if you win the SEC, it's going to take care of itself ( I know, Auburn 2004) in all likelihood. Why play USC, Ohio State, Texas, and Virginia Tech when you have a SEC schedule? You're just going to get your team beat up. And to the "Well, I want to see a quality opponent", well, you'll get your wish- hopefully in Dec. at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

I wish State would do this, I've been begging them to do this for years. I think it might happen though, so maybe my pleads have been heard.

According to SI.com, Ole Miss plays 2 teams (Bama, LSU) in the top 1/4 (1-30) of the NCAA FBS, 3 teams (Ark, UT, SC) in the 2nd quarter (31-60) of the NCAA, 3 teams (MSU, AU, Vandy) in the 3rd quarter (61-90) of the NCAA, 2 teams (Mem, UAB) in the last quarter (91-120), and two FCS teams unranked. That's 7 teams in the bottom half (or worse) of the NCAA.

By contrast, Minnesota is playing 5 teams in the top quarter (MSU, PSU, OSU, Iowa, Cal), 3 teams in the 2nd quarter (Illinois, NW, Wisc), 2 teams in the 3rd quarter (Purdue, AF) 1 team in the last quarter (Syracuse) and one FCS school. That's 8 teams in the top 60, compared to 5 for OM.

Every single year every poster on this board yells about how they are overrated.

And why was Minnesota brought up? I still think it's much easier to win in the Big 10 or the Pac 10 than the SEC.

"I hate every one of you"

I don't hate State fans, and I don't hate State.

Granted, most of my friends went to State and I have had a lot of fun in both towns.

But jeez, hate?

I know this isn't anything new but, "can't we all just get along"?

And that's why Nutt stepped into the perfect situation. We did have enough talent to win immediately, which has given him some momentum to bring in one quality class already. If he parlays it into a 2nd, we may have a down year in 2010 and be back winning in 2011 with those first 3 classes to keep the ball rolling.

Also, I'll say that I think it's easier to recruit to Ole Miss than to Arkansas. When you look at the talent in each state and the split (Mississippi produces 2-3 times as much talent as Arkansas, but we have to split it), both teams have to go out of state for about the same number of prospects each year to have success. Arkansas, however, is on the far border of SEC territory. The states that make the most sense for them to recruit out of state are Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. 3 of those 4 states are Big 12 states where the kids grow up watching and cheering for Big 12 teams mostly. It's tough to get a kid from Mississippi or Georgia to choose to play in the Big 12, and likewise it isn't easy to get those kids to come to the SEC.

At Ole Miss, the logical states for us to recruit for talent are Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana, all SEC states where the players grow up wanting to play for SEC schools. It's much easier to get those players to Ole Miss than to get Oklahoma or Missouri kids to play in the SEC.

and <17> Radiohead. Okay, only joking. Most State fans hate Ole Miss the school and the idea of Ole Miss, but not the individual fans. Fans of the SEC are pretty decent for the most part (except Bama fans).

But I don't/won't pull for OM unless it directly helps State out.
