Who are the sleeper teams this year?

Beyond the Salems and the Dinwiddies of the world, who could make some noise in the playoffs this year? Will there be any new faces, any unexpected arrivals in Williamsburg?

Honestly I don’t think so. KF or DC are the only ones that would be newbys.

Maybe GW Danville but we knew they would be a contender.

Not really anyone that wasn’t on the radar I just don’t see it

Not with no defense absolutely not! Better question.... what team has the best chance of knocking off Dinwiddie?

I'd say the teams in the east would all have a less than 50% chance. Would need to play well and Dinwiddie to make a few mistakes or fall behind early.

the teams west of the Blue Ridge are better and more deep. Whoever gets there wins it.

Tough to say Blacksburg isn't up there. If Dinwiddie makes it to the championship game, I think Blacksburg and Sherando would be the most likely two to give them a game. Wouldn't count out Woodgrove, Salem, or Liberty, but I'm less confident in them getting the opportunity with how the regions are arranged.

I’m not buying into Liberty at all sorry I’m just not. Even though they beat sherando it’s my understanding if they played 5 times sherando would win the other 4.

Sherando is a year away imo, maybe two deep or three deep playoff team max. Unless , they get even better than last week.
I agree with Hamspear. I am a Sherando (and James Wood) fan but its time to quit giving them props for playing good opponents close. Yes they have played some big time schools the last couple years (The record of their opponents in their last 7 regular season losses is 67-3) but they haven't beaten a team with a winning record since they beat a very mediocre Millbrook team in November 2015.

Hopefully that changes this week. They can still make a lot of noise in their region but if they lose this one they might be staying home again this year.

I think sherandos defense is gonna be the big difference. Millbrook has no defense so if sherando can get enough stops then they should win.

Although they're the defending champs, I view Salem as a sleeper....due to their uneven play this year. I would think most people believe they will not make it to the finals again, but they have a punchers chance.

I don’t think Sherando will lose another regular season game this year. They are a very explosive team, and the defense is much better than last year. By far the best defense in the area. They are learning to finish good teams off with playing these teams. I realize Sherando has lost some close games to really good teams, but I think we have to give them credit for willing to play those state champion caliber teams. They could schedule like Millbrook , Handley , and James Wood , and easily be 9-1, or 10-0 at the end of the regular season, but I think it will pay off in the long run. By the tenth game this season, I doubt Millbrook will want any parts of Sherando, they are going to be seasoned really well.

This is exactly what you said last year.
