Who Are You No. 1 Teams in Each Class?

The 2025 Virginia High School Football season is a little more than a month away.

In August, VirginiaPreps.com will be rolling outs its Preseason Top Tens. You can see the new realignment attached in a .pdf file at the end of this post.

We want to know who you think should be No. 1 in each of the six classifications?

To review - the State Champs in 2024 were as follows:
Oscar Smith in Class 6 (we had them Preseason No. 3)
Maury in Class 5 (we had them Preseason No. 1)
Phoebus in Class 4 (we had them Preseason No. 1)
Liberty Christian in Class 3 (we had them Preseason No. 1)
Graham in Class 2 (we had them Preseason No. 1)
Essex in Class 1 (we had them in Preseason No. 1)

If you're wondering who our Preseason No. 1 was in Class 6 a year ago, that would be the Hayfield Hawks (currently without a Head Coach as of July 7th of this year)...

I agree ! I was going to pick the same teams. NO NOVA teams. One of the teams from Fairfax or Prince William counties will challenge Oscar Smith, probably. Wally_Winkerbean knows !!!

That GRAHAM coach is pretty good. He is racking up the state titles. Who are the strong d6 teams in Northern Virginia, besides Madison ? Wally_Winkerbean

I'm about to post my 2025 team preview for the Rappahannock Raiders, who defeated State Champion Essex during the regular season and went 12-0 before losing the Region championship game. They have to be considered a Top 4 team.

I'm hoping that @mikesalem will be doing his annual final 4 picks contest again this fall

I remember coming out on top of that contest, if memory serves me correctly, last fall.

Sure hope Mike (along with everyone else) will make his way over to our new board, sure wouldn't be the same without him. He's always put so much of his time into our weekly pick em contest each week during the season.

112 or 113 wins in 10 years or 11.2/11.3 wins per season. And he took over a Graham program that had its worst 7 year run in modern history. If you look at his record over the past 7 years, it's scary good. Graham is loaded again not just for 2025, but for the next 5 years. Has 7th and 8th grade teams destroying opponents. Graham is a Class 2 school with Class 4 talent. Has had 12 kids in the last 8 years with at least one D1 offer. This year, the coaches son has a D1 offer and likely Bradshaw and 2 additional others on the team will have D1 offers by season's end. That's 4 starters of the 11 with likely, a minimum of one D1 offer for a Class 2 school. That's crazy.

Completely agree with you Will. Essex and Rappahannock will make up half of the Top 5.

If someone is looking for a 'sleeper' team to make a run that is not on the radar, I'd suggest the Eastside Spartans. We'll have more on them in our previews + Top Ten Countdown next month. But remember the name Keldan Hamilton. Might be the best player in the state that much of the state is unfamiliar with, certainly people outside SW VA.

We were told by the On3 brass that some of the old articles and message board content should be migrated over time. HS sites are the final ones on the checklist after the college team sites. However, that is not a guarantee we'll see some of the old threads and posts from what I understand.

We're certainly hoping it happens, especially with some of our older VIP Previews, Predictions, etc. I do know some of the team sites lost forum material from the final two weeks of June.

To a degree, it's out of their control and I know this can be discouraging for a lot of folks, but we ask for patience and understanding. There will be a lot of neat new features and tools. Change is never easy, however, some change can be for the better.
