....and went 2-14 with them, would you give him a pass, too?? And would you say something as stupid as, "they will contend for the SEC next year"?

Your idiocy knows no bounds.

It is only a few who are clueless who consistently belittle him. I doubt many coaches could do better at MSU, but that is a moot point, he ison his way to another 20 win season. As far as coaches who underperformed, it has to be Gillespie, Pelphrey, and probably Gottfried. Bama has some talent and they will make a change. Pearl also could be criticized because he brought back the nucleus of his team and added a high school All-American in Hopson.

People are sucking Kennedy's dick about the job he has done this year. He had a senior team last year with tons of size and experience in the post and failed down the stretch of the season. There is no doubt he's a good coach, but like you said, the love fest with him is unreal. What Kennedy has done is he has begun to play the AAU game and get some actual real division 1 talent to Ole Miss. Barnes wouldn't play that game and he would sit at home and pray to God for some division 1 talent to just walk onto his campus. Kennedy does what Stansbury has been doing for a while. Recruiting some players. Ole Miss has never seen that before.

UPig replaced all 5 starters from last year, 3 spots went to Freshman...they have 8 Freshman on their roster, making the the youngest team in the SEC...Pelphrey should contend in the West next year- if he doesnt, then you can get on his ***....

I don't care how many players you lost and how many freshmens you played, if you go 2-14 you did a pretty ****** job.

We'll never know. I think Barry, Twanny & Benock could've held down the point position. Not as well as Dee Bost did, but I think we'd have been okay. Kodi Augustus would have gotten a helluva lot more playing time, which would have bode well for us heading into next season. He might have been a difference maker in some of the games we lost. Who knows? It's all speculative at this point, but I somehow think with a line-up of Randy, Ravern, Varnado, Kodi & a combination of: Osby/Benock/B Johson/Twanny, we'd still have managed 7 wins in Conference. I somehow think the genius label wouldn't be given to Stans though had he won 7 with that line-up.

2-14 in the SEC is simply awful.

Ole Miss had three newcomers, two frosh and one Juco guy that was horrible that started SEC play, and Upig was beat by Will freaking Bogan.

Any team that gets beat by Will Bogan has a horrible coach.

2-14 in a down SEC is terrible, and the young argument means that he did a ****** job recruiting then, its his job to bring in players that can compete.

Talk about not willing to admit you are wrong.

but we played our best when Bost was good. Benock cannot run the point at all. Beckham can't shoot and therefore, is a major liability. Barry can run the point sufficiently but we wouldn't be playing our best. And Turner was a beast.

Bost won us the Arkansas game single handedly. The same argument could probably be made about Turner and the South Carolina game.

I doubt we would've seen more of Augustus if the coaches are so down on his practice habits. It would've just been more Osby and Johnson.

and therefore, incapable of doing much better. Its another thing when they beat Texas and Oklahoma. Obviously something went bad wrong during the season that has nothing to do with youth.

I still think it's funny that Arkansas has as many Big 12 wins as they do SEC wins. 2-14 in the SEC, but 2-0 in the Big 12.

Kodi most certainly would have seen MUCH more pt. Stans wouldn't cut off his nose to spite his face. Injuries make you play folks you normally wouldn't play. Brian Johnson was sick or hurt or suspended half the damn season, it seemed like. Osby was pretty clueless all season, therefore Kodi would have gotten in by default. I have no doubt in my mind about that. And who knows how we'd have played with him in the line-up most of the season? I'd be willing to bet we'd have won at least 7 games in Conference though.

Last I checked we were picked 4th in the west and we finished in 3rd. We exceeded what most people thought we'd do. I am convinced that Losers try to tear down Winners to bring them to their level. Stnasbury is a winner and I, like many others on here, are convinced, you are a Loser!

to start the pre-SEC schedule the way Arkansas did and completely bust is just a horrible coaching job.

Where was SC picked in the East in basketball?

preseason predictions are just guesses- who predicted Mississippi would lose 3 of their top 6 players to injuries? If those people had known that, they would have predicted them lower and us higher...

What takes place during the season is what matters

And while you are at it- stop with the 20 win crap. The NCAA committee picks the best teams from the SEC each year to compete in the NCAA Tourney- and we will have been picked once in the last 4 years come Sunday. So that means in the last 4 seasons, we have been one of the top SEC teams. One time. In Four Years. Once.

I think Calathes is the most overrated player in college basketball. And Parsons is a role player.
I cant believe im going to do this(never thought id actually feel compelled to), but here is what i posted on GP when Clara said the same thing you just said.

So what specifically about him is overrated?

-Is it that he is 6'6" and able to not only play the point, but dominate at it?
-Is it his ability to take over a game on the offensive end when his team isnt playing well?
-Is it his 18.4points/game?...which is 6th in the conference.
-Or maybe his 6.4assists/game?...which is TOPS in the conference.
-What about his 5.3rebounds/game...as a guard?...which is 25th in the conference.
-Perhaps his 2steals/game?...which is 2nd in the conference.
-Oh, i guess its his 54.4% FG shooting?...the highest player not a forward, and excellent for a guard...which is 8th in the conference
-How about that 42.4% 3pt shooting?
-Ahh, it must be that 2.03-1 A/TO ratio he has. Yep, thats it.

Seriously Clara, how are these stats NOT evidence of him getting the accolades that he deserves? SERIOUSLY?
A guard who averages 18.4ppg, 6.4apg, 5.3rpg, 2steals/game, shoots 54.4%, shoots 42.4% from deep, and has a 2-1 A/TO ratio is overrated? come on.

What do his stats need to be for you to feel that the talk he gets is deserved? Really, i would love to see the stats you would like to see him average for him to not be overrated. List away, please.

She never responded, but i would like to understand how someone with those stats as a sophmore(or any grade) is overrated.

It's funny how that works isn't it? Earlier in the year I read on here that pelphry doesn't use young as an excuse

and impossible to argue with. Im just going by the numerous times I watch him. He's a good player for sure...I just don't think he's great.

But he is not a "great" player. I think there is some kind of tension with him and Billy Dononvan right now. Calathes rode the pine for the critical portion of the game in the Hump. I do know this: I would take Dee Bost over Calathes based on what I have seen from Dee as a freshman.

not saying he's over-rated or not, but sometimes stats don't tell the whole story

I agree, sometimes they dont tell the whole story. Do you actually feel this is one of those sometimes? If so, how so?

I think such dominant numbers over such a large group of stats means he is legit. If he were just some prolific scorer and sucked elsewhere, then sure stats can lie.

But he dominates the conference stats in assists, is a high scorer, rebounds great for a guard, is a solid defender(steals, D rebs), is a very accurate deep shooter(42%) and a solid shooter overall(highest shooting % in the conf that isnt a forward). What part of the story are these stats not telling?

I somewhat agree with 8dog and Rambis. My thing with him is when I watch him play, he is not someone that I feel can take over the game and put his team on his back and dominate. He puts up good numbers for sure, and he is a good player. But, for all the accolades and hype he gets, I expect more. I expect him to dominate. There are very few times I watch him that it is clear he is the best player on the floor. Its kinda hard to describe, but with the great players (using SEC players as an example - Tasmin Mitchell, Meeks, Downey) you can tell just by watching them that they are the best player on the floor and they play like it. Calathes doesn't do show that very often in my opinion. When I looked at Florida coming in here, there was not a single player on Florida's team that I thought could beat us by himself, Calathes included. I can't say that for the other teams like LSU, UK, and SC. For what its worth, I think he'll be a better pro than he is a college player.

First of all, he is white. White boys can't be THAT good. Unless their name is Tyler Hansbrough.

The thing about Calathes is he is a goody looking white boy and he is not going to blow you away with super athleticism. He can't jump out of the gym, he's not a speed demon going end to end like Ty Lawson, he's not bull moose strong......he is just mot always in the right place, doing the right thing, at the right time, the fundamentally right way (other than that awkward looking half jumper half set shot). There's nothing flashy about that. Because of that, he is never going to get the accolades or the respect he probably deserves. I'd be willing to bet a lot of teams scout Florida and say the same thing that BlindDawg said, and when the game is over Calathes has put up 22/7/12 and his team is walking out a winner. Then after the game is over, the other team says how did THAT guy beat us???

I don't think he'll be a great pro because he doesn't do anything well enough. He doesn't shoot well enough to be a designated shooter. He won't beat most NBA guards off the bounce. He won't be a lock down defender. He might make a living in the Association because he is a 6-6 or 6-7 point guard and can get the ball to people by looking over smaller guards.

He's not a guy you really have to gameplan around. Think about it, when we play KY, SC or LSU-the first thing we think is "How do we stop Thornton, Meeks, Downey?" I never think that about Calathes. He gets his, but he doesn't seem to draw the attention of the entire defense, thereby bringing the other 4 guys more into play like others do.
