Petrino is coaching Louisville now. They're ranked 13th in the nation - and none of the U of L people I know seem to be suffering to much over it.
Not exactly what I was looking for but....This ought to take awhile.
I liked him a lot!!!!I can specifically remember fans hating the idea of McIntyre (who isn't young, necessarily). He was a legit candidate due to his ties to the south.
Stoops was about one of the hottest Coordinator names in college football at the time. Herbstreit was surprised he came to UK, for instance.
Colorado looked better coached, disciplined and inspired than CSU. As a result, the formerly downtrodden Buffaloes were sharp and decimated the Rams. Mr. McIntyre can coach.I can specifically remember fans hating the idea of McIntyre (who isn't young, necessarily). He was a legit candidate due to his ties to the south.

You mean the two faced hypocrites that said Kentucky sold its soul hiring Cal?Petrino is coaching Louisville now. They're ranked 13th in the nation - and none of the U of L people I know seem to be suffering to much over it.
Years ago, back before I officially joined the Rivals board, I lurked around here quite a bit. I remember a classic thread where someone (can't remember who) had this elaborate post about Bobby P coming to UK, Something about a phone call from BP after Thanksgiving dinner to the OP's house indicating he was all set to be UKs next coach. The OP of that thread claimed to be instrumental in bringing the "UK Camp" and the "Petrino Camp" together. It was one of the most elaborate troll jobs I ever remember on any board. I spent about 10 minutes looking for that thread recently but couldn't find it.Once again......He was passed over by every power five school in the country. He was a toxic hire at the time. The people that cared about his side piece were the attorneys from UA that were having to answer why Petrino hired a person with no experience for a state job while passing over at least one female with administrative experience (who happened to be close to Bobby Ps age). Add that to the fact he left one of the m o st respected NFL owners in the lurch as well as his dalliance with AUBURN while at UL....
Yeah...you're right. He would've been a safe hire. Despite rubbing the nose of the president of Arkansas in the dirt.
There were s lot of names thrown around by the fan base and media but it's hard to tell who was actually considered by the admin. My favorite was Butch Jones. His ability to coach and ties to Cincy/Southern Ohio seemed logical to me.

"Hi, this is Bobby". Ring a bell?Years ago, back before I officially joined the Rivals board, I lurked around here quite a bit. Back to the topic of the OP, we didn't exactly have a who's who of college FB parading through Mitch's office wanting the job. I was happy as hell when Stoops was hired, but the honeymoon is over and time will tell if the marriage can be saved.
He was not interviewed at Tennessee either. Nor AUBURN. Nowhere.
WKU threw him a lifeline and he took it.
You would have to fire every president of every school that did not interview Petrino if you have that much of an addiction to him.
He was not a viable alternative at the time.
Well considering the other options, obviously should've taken dykes or even the other 2 were damn good options. But out of those options, we really went with stoops who wasn't on the radar with those guys? Dykes could've been a program changer. Same with the others. We screwed the pooch on this one bad. But I mean stoops did a damn good job conning Mb into letting him steal money from the university. As far as I'm concerned stoops hasn't earned a penny of his contract. Making him one of the countries richest thieves. The con job stoops pulled on MB in order to get rich has be one of the most pathetic displays of competence ever from an AD. He really allowed that bafoon. To con him out of like 20 million. How do you let a bafoon like stoops con you THAT bad??Leach and Petrino were fans' options but were never really in the equation.
Here is an article on Dykes, Anderson, and McIntyre as being the top candidates.

(Sigh).....Yep, and guess what? Those schools can afford not to hire a coach like Petrino and still find a coach that's just as good or better because of their tradition. Come on, it's not brain surgery, why in the world are you trying so hard to rationalize what Mitch did when THE FACTS are staring you right in the face? For the life of me I can't understand it. It was a terrible decision. Point blank. Period. Just admit it and move on. You're only digging yourself in a deeper hole every time you attempt to defend what he did. "Well no one else wanted him!" That's the tried and true line we like to use isn't it? Oh, except for that school a few miles down the road, oh and that other school a few miles down the road. Apparently they don't count because they were just "throwing him a lifeline". Come on. I have never in my life seen a fanbase that tries so hard to rationalize poor decisions and mediocrity.
You're fighting a losing battle trying to defend Mitch with this deal. Go ask any college football expert and they'd tell you that a school like UK would be insane to pass on what might be their one chance at getting a proven winner.
Just on the chance some folks are would look it up.You really like that word "toxic"
But Clyde did impress in his interview? Barnhart's judgement is not to be trusted. Anyone could have spent 5 minutes with Gillispie and realized he was a lunatic........except Mitch. How much was that buyout?Butch Jones, who I wanted, but there were conflicting reports. I heard he didn't impress Barnhardt in the interview and Matt Jones says he was never interested. So who knows?
Yeah.... I remember that post as well... At the time I don't even think I knew what a "troll' was....Years ago, back before I officially joined the Rivals board, I lurked around here quite a bit. leach had already taken WSU job the year before. needed to pull plug on joker quickerLeech, petrino were options. Obviously much better options than the one we have. I honestly believe all of our other options were proven HC's who have done much better jobs than stoops. I believe stoops was the worst available option of all the ones we had and that was our selection. Sad to say.
yeah, WKU really paying a price for that right now, eh?Once again......He was passed over by every power five school in the country. He was a toxic hire at the time. link downs work. there was no public statement about a ban. all conjecture. Not exactly what I was looking for but....

Very uncharismatic guy, but proven winner, who was having trouble up to now like Stoops. Be interesting to see if he does get over the hump this season.
