Who from 2024 HS deserves a Statue?

Seeing Tom Brady get a statue had me thinking, who deserves one from 2024? The two I came up with were Brett Clatterbaugh, Eastern View, and Harry Dalton III from Dinwiddie. Not sure if these players received recognition at their schools already, but I could see them coming back to the school for a presentation down the road. Who are some others from last season?

Wasn’t there a kid at Salem that made a huge difference for them. Maybe starting at VT as a freshman?

Forgot about Gideon Davidson from Liberty Christian. Two State titles and a Clemson commit.

Absolutely no statues for any Salem player, ever. No one is above the team. The number 1 jersey is hanging up in the locker room, no one will ever wear it. No one is number 1.

So, Salem HS has no player pictures anywhere in the school? How would I know who some of the great players are, who uplifted the Salem, community, who elementary kids could inspire to be like? No Player of the Year trophies, All-State players listed, street names, gym names? Nothing?

Mostly just state championship team group pictures on the wall.

Only three awards we have that specify individual players. 1) the iron spartan award listed on the wall of the weight room. An award earned for most dedicated weight lifter that year, usually given to a senior who had four years of lifting dedication. 2) scout team player award for best scout team player, forgot the specific name. 3) the lead mule award for the leader of the offensive linemen.

Willis White field, named after the man who built the program. Other than that, it doesn’t matter who did what and when. It matters about who is playing now and what they can do.

It is obvious who built the program and lifted people up, we love our coaches.

We see all of our players as great. Salems football culture is vehemently against propping up any touchdown kings as uniquely important

Every Salem class argues why their players are actually the best in Salem history, spartan of yore used to have a big post on va preps ranking every Salem team ever, so the spoken word of debate surrounding the players is alive and well in Salem discourse. But hopefully the current players don’t hear it because it’s all about them and what they can do now. Everything else is for the birds

State winners are pictured by the gym along with bigger pictures of guys that have made it to the show. Also, Salem has a retired jersey.

As far as statues go I would nominate Andrew Martin "Marty" Yuhas. #knockyourweenieinyourwristwatchpocket

Ok great. I was afraid my friend Dennis Haley wasn't recognized.

Dennis Haley was good, everyone in Salem who pays attention to football knows that.
Will he ever get a statue or a retired jersey because of that?
Absolutely not

So Salem does recognize individuals in the school. You made it seem like no one was recognized, with "No one is above the team" and "Salems football culture is vehemently against propping up any touchdown kings as uniquely important."

Recognition is not a bad thing. In my 20 years in the US Air Force, I was part of many Squadron awards (best in Strategic Air Command, etc.), where everyone got to wear the ribbons. But there were certain individuals who went above and beyond and were recognized individually by the Commander. It was a group accomplishment, but we were happy for our co-workers. We achieved great success and accomplished a major USAF award, but the very best performers were also recognized individually, and we all shared in their success.
