Who is Jay Banks?

Listed as a transfer on our commitment list. From Louisville. Originally from Olive Branch. Looks like he played some JUCO ball somewhere, hard to find any good info on him.

ETA: Also, who is Trip Wilson? I see we gave him a walk-on spot but he isn't listed on MS' top recruits on 247. Any particular reasoning?

You can google those guys and figure it out. I assume the walking man beside their name means they’re walk-on.

ETA: hopefully having all these guys who went out-of-state only to come back can be used as a good recruiting tool for us. The grass isn’t always greener.

I see his twitter, but there's no record of him on 247 or on the Louisville roster. I see a Jeffrey Banks from Olive Branch, but apparently this guy is from Greenwood. I guess it's the same guy, seeing the 88 number. He's been purged from the 2019 roster. Something weird going on.

His brother is already on State team. he is listed as a transfer on the 2020 commits list. immediate eligibility. so must be grad transfer.

Per his Twitter account that I was able to search for, he’s a grad transfer which is great seeing that we need some WRs.

Trip Wilson is a WR out of Tupelo that has done nothing but produce. He’d accepted a PWO spot at Ole Miss under Luke, but was never contacted by Kiffin or staff. He’d planned to play football and baseball, which brings us to why he doesn’t have a profile on 247.... he’d committed to play baseball at Memphis and I suppose it was assumed that was his path. But the fact that a kid that has produced like he has, at the highest classification in Mississippi, and doesn’t even have a profile is absurd.

I want every player that State ever signs to under-achieve, if I’m being 100% honest. But getting him, in Leach’s system, as a dang walk-on, could ultimately prove to be a big time signing for State. Not to mention you get the free wild card draw with him as a CF and/or bullpen arm/closer. I’m disappointed he isn’t going to wind up at Ole Miss. But, by all accounts, his family are big State people, and he will likely fit into Leach’s system very well. I’d be excited about him, if I was you.

Banks and Wilson are both walk-ons. Wilson is apparently also a good baseball player- I'm not sure if he plans to play both or anything beyond that.

Why does Trip Wilson not get a scholarship? Dude was a beast at Tupelo and proved he was an elite WR. Does he not qualify at our great university. What gives?

I watched his highlights, looks like a good player. Maybe under-recruited and/or underrated because he’s a white receiver? I think a lot of white guys at certain skill positions are undervalued, akin to how black QBs used to be.

There’s a lot to like from the videos I saw. Good size at 6’3, and no problem at all getting separation on the outside against some really good 6A teams. This used to be the type of guy USM made its living from. Seems like a guy Leach would love.

There was a Jeffrey Banks @ UofL from Olive Branch, he was a TE. But, no mention of a Jay Banks anywhere on UofL's rosters.
