Past or Present tense? Some have answered in past tense, so if past tense, Graham's would be Bill Dudley. 1st Team Consensus All-American at UVA, All US Military Service Team (a big deal back in the 1930s and 40s), NFL MVP in 1946, and four time NFL All Pro, NFL Hall of Fame.

My alma mater(C'O '05) and coaching stops first. I'm biased to folks I played against or watched so you'll see a clear 2000s flavor in my selections.
Liberty(Bedford) - OB Blake (Avery Anderson, JJ Coles)
Charlottesville - Rashard Davis/Sabias Folley (Lloyd Burress, Eric Wilson)
Harrisonburg - Akeem Jordan (Patrick Ward)
Rocktown - Keyon Benton

For Seminole schools
Jefferson Forest - Anthony Poindexter (Jake Grove, Jerton Evans, Navy Jones)
Rustburg - Danny Davis (Was before I was born but all the area OGs say he was the one)
EC Glass - Andre Kendrick (Cornell Brown, Nic Anderson & Thomas Patterson)
Heritage - LaLa Davis (JT Morris, Chris Cook)
Brookville - Logan Thomas (Samir Ghiri)
Amherst - Peter Rose (Tim Sandidge)
Staunton River - Grayson Overstreet (Jermaine Moyer)
Appomattox - Kenny Scott (Javon Scruggs)
Altavista - Juan Thornhill
LCA - Gideon Davidson
William Campbell - Cedric Peerman (Charles Haley)
Gretna - Vic Hall

OJ Thomason and Jeff Highfill Jr come to mind for Byrd. The kid they recently had at QB, Hairston I believe was tough.
Northside I'm going Justin London(UCLA) everyday, twice on sunday, man among boys. Tommy Morgan, Pooh Saunders and Nick Sigmon came to mind as well.

Salem has such a storied history. If DAngelo Ramsey had his stuff together, he's the best I've seen wear that uniform. Marcus Parker, Andre Hairston and Dennis Haley would be my next three Spartans. Light easily the best OL to come out of Salem. Curious what an all time Salem team would look like in your eyes.

My all time Salem team is absolutely skewed because I only started watching in 2000. Probably didn’t understanding what I was watching until about 2004.

lol
Offense:

QB Matt shawver/Matt hill
FB: Marty Bishop/cam leftwich
HB: deangelo Ramsey/zavione wood
Te: J allen/ Cody Peregoy
Tackle: Alex Light/jackson Bryie/thomas Mundy/braxtonwall
Guard: Matt Carr/ Ben long/ Thomas Mitchem/ Sam Jones
Center: Zach Hoyt/caleb wright
WR: Tony sprad/chad fisher/ viante tucker/ Barnett twins

Defense
DT Cameron martindale/ sam Everett/ kirklend smith
DE Pat polifrone/ Zack hill/ Cody Peregoy/ George George
Mike/middle: Jonas rawlins/ j allen/ John ribble
Outside backers: Chris Cole/ seth fisher/ Devin smith
Corners: jorden mcdonald/jayden McDonald/ Brett demole/ Luke owen
Safety: nick wade/ mic Edwards

Defense is particularly hard for Salem as is probably everywhere else because there are studs who would play one game at d end, then play corner back the next. Just depended on where they were needed and at the time. Johnathan walker and arius McConnell are two Salem players that fit many positions for salem defense. Defensive line will often have fill-in younger guys that graduate to more skill based positions later in their career at Salem. Vice versa, you may get a speed guy fill in at d-end or nose guard most of the season if there is already enough speed in the d backfield (think 2015-2017 teams). You don’t always get pure bred d tackles like Cameron Martindale up there. At least not back in the day.

Anyways. Thats my initial gut reaction to the “all time Salem team” for me. A lot of great names left out. A lot of names on my list are under appreciated because they didn’t play on state winning teams, but pretty sure they could have started on any team for salem.

If my money is on the line, those are the players I’m fielding.

I couldn’t give an honest assessment on pre 2000, because I didn’t see it.

I believe Ethan Vasko and Shawn Mitchell have broken some of his records but Phillip Sims from Oscar Smith. I would say Josh Sweat but strictly for high school, he wasn’t around long enough to dominate to have as much of an impact on long term team success as Phillip.

For post-2000 Salem QBs, I think you have to list Noah Beckley, who won two state championships and signed with JMU.

For the late 1980s through the late 1990s, some all-time players include but are no means limited to Tra Wilson, Marcus Parker, Brad Bradley, Ricky Eubanks, Josh Pugh, Jomo Nelson, Stephen Magenbauer, Richard Goodpasture, and the entire 1998 team.

Yeah. It’s my gut reaction based on what I want out of a Salem qb. Noah was exactly what that team needed to win those state championships. Finesse, accurate, fast.

Same reason I didn’t list Keith Gaines, I like a tall field general at qb if I had to pick. If shawver and beckley/gaines are on the same team, you put beckley/gaines at receiver because you can’t waste their athleticism and you can’t waste shawvers ability to throw.

Which is exactly why Gaines was a receiver for shawver.

Doesn’t mean I’m right though. I think anyone that starts for Salem can play ball. IMO. Beckleys game and success can’t be denied.
