we all know Relf, Bumphis, and McPhee will be at the forefront- who is your pick to join them this season?

I'm going with Conner...I think he and Ballard end up getting most of the RB carries- Conner gets a few more TD's because of his size in goalline situations

Marcus Green could be 2nd team all SEC this year, but not sure if thats considered a break out guy or not.

LaDarius Perkins will be my dark horse.

I think McPhee and Carmon are going to require a lot of attention thereby freeing up Cox to win a lot of match-ups. Should be a fun d-line to watch this year.

On offense, I'll go with Chris Smith edging out Brandon Heavens. This is a HOPE pick, because we need an outside receiver to step up. Chris is the biggest receiver on our team (which is a problem) and so we need him to keep the chains moving.

On defense, I'll go with Nickoe Whitley. If he's good enough for them to move Banks to corner, the kid's got ability. Hopefully that leads to some big plays from him both in blitz packages and in coverage.

I feel good about Ballard and Conner getting the tough yards, but this offense works so much better when you have a dangerous speed guy who is able to spread the D out. Between Perkins, Heavens, and the Deuce, we have to get some game-breaking plays.

****, I just thought about Norwood in this offense. Damn.

I think my mid season he'll have proved himself as the best back on the roster and will lead the the team in every rushing statistic by season's end.

I've been hypin this guys all spring. Came in and took the spot at safety because he made play after play all spring. Nobody is going to see him coming.

I really thought he was going to be a stud before he tore his ACL early during his senior year. He played QB and S for Provine, and could fly all over and make plays. You just never know how a player will return from an injury like that, but from the spring reports, it sounds like Whitley is ready and able for this fall.

Im thinking Conner will eventually become the man.
Wishful thinking...Cameron Lawrence becomes a stud and lays people out all season.

Conner for offense. I too think he has all the ability to be a breakout player. I like the situation he is in as well, being a Rfr. and having at least 3 other guys to split carries with, we won't have to lean on him as heavily as we did Dixon when he was a freshman.

My darkhorse on defense will be Deontae Skinner.

i would say M. Carr. Since it will take him awhile to catch up....I got Tobias Smith. He finally goes the whole year w/o breaking and pancakes people up and down the field.

but what about LeonBerry, I thought he had a pretty good year last year, I don't see why he can't have a solid season, he's easily our most experienced WR

Im second that.I think he has a chance to be one of the best safeties to ever play at MSU before its over. Thekid is the completepackage. Size, Smarts, Power, and Speed.

Screw all the young guys. He's got 1 season left to prove what he can do. We know he has skills, just got to put it all together at WR. He was non-existent in the passing game during the second half of the season. No doubt he can do better than200 yards receiving.

For the newcomers I'll pick Ballard.Depending on how Elliott plays, Ballard could be our leading rusher. If Elliott looks good this fall I figure they will split carriesand Conner will be a solid #3. If Elliott doesn't perform, I see Ballard being our go to guy with the rest splitting time as his backup.

And no, I'm not doubting Conner's abilities. He's the future star of this team. I just wonder how he'll do compared to more experienced guys when game time rolls around.

you're probably right, but if he does stay healthy I think it will be a huge boost.

I was trying to go out on a limb though.

was a guy that knew of Tobias in high school .. said he's always had injuries, etc and that he wasn't surprised that he's continued to have problems at State.

Marcus Green. He has someone that can get him the ball now.

And I think Vick Ballard because we are going to give him the ball a lot.

really think Relf and or T Russell can spread the field enough throwing it to put 28 points a game on the board
I wish we could hitch our wagon to a 1000 yard back thisyear and I think maybe V Ballard may be the guy.

and I can go along with that, I think itsa break out year for Mississippi State football. But I'll choose Robert Elliot as my break out player. With his
knee injury we never saw who he was, what he was capable of, but I think he's going to be very different this year. Thicker, quicker, shiftier...the total
package IMHO.

Other notables are Whitley...he freakin' destroyed people in hishigh school videos
Bumphis...really, he's already broken out, he's just going to mature like every other SEC receiver...
Relf.....if he can develop some accuracy he'll be a threat behind unlike any we've had
Tobias Smith...if he can stay healthy thatdude is going to pancake some bitches

Mullen mentioned him in Birmingham.

Elliot has shown some flashes, but I just can't get behind him asa "breakout"...he seems to lack stability of some sort.
If I'm wrong, I still win.
Some body's gonna show up.

I think Dylan Favre will go from being a possible redshirt to the face of the Mississippi State spread offense.

Mullen may have mentioned him in Hoover, but I doubt he will see the field unless either Relf or Russell get hurt.

I think he plays, and could be a factor of some kind,
might be throwing a pass from a faked field goal or some trickery, but he has a chance to be a factor of some type.

But we still redshirted Russell and Whitley and several other players last year. Wasting a redshirt for a "Secret Weapon" sounds rather Croomesque to me...

That said, if he has the poise and the moxie to beat out Russell for the #2 spot then by all means play him.

edit for spelling fail
