Who knew that Mullen's 41-27 was the knockout punch to Nutts?

That started this downward spiral for Nutts. They were coming off another win vs LSU, riding high, and aspirations of a bowl better than the Cotton Bowl. Every RebelBear thought that they were climbing the stairs to SEC relevance. And along comes Dan Mullen, and he bitchslaps them and Nutts in his 1st Egg Bowl.<div>
</div><div>Since 41-27, the program has slipped off those steps to relevance, and have been in a freefall to the bottom of the SEC. 41-27, then Jax State, then Vandy....and on and on....</div><div>

This was the first haymaker that Nutt couldnt recover from, not to mention former arky head coach at jax state kickin him square in the nuts. Truth be told, a young cocky first time hc may have run Nutt out of the business

The trash talking, the taunts, recruiting battles, the questions from the press, it all seemed to get under his skin real bad. People will blame Mullen for starting it all but really Nutt was the first one to make his comments in the CL about Ole Miss being the program on the rise in the State. Which of course led to Mullen's on field display of Machismo after that first Egg Bowl.
Everything after that was desperation mode for Nutt. Signing all thehigh profile guys that would never make it to campus, bringing in Masoli, goingfull street agent / lance pogue during recruting last year. I really think he may have put too much stock into the rivalry.Maybe that's why all of his decisions seemed like they were always reactionary. I never felt like he made decisions for the long term, like never recruiting a High School QB to develop. Or maybe he just never saw Ole Miss as a permanent destination, or he's just the shady character all the hogs say he is.

Is Nutt the 1st coach at either school to go winless for his career in the Egg Bowl?

I think the biggest reason is Jevan Sneed and some other key guys leaving them high and dry...
could be to the NFL and recruiting mixed

One more thing you may want to add to your recruiting instate and out of state guys
...some get home sick, want to leave for their own reasons
...you don't understand/know these kids as well as people know hometown kids

it goes to show you how at arkansas and lsu the recruiting game is so much better
...meaning* kids grow up loving and wanting to be at that school, so they put up with so much more than not wanting to be at said school, just because they are an SEC school

Who would have thought that they'd go on to lose 15 of their next 21 games?

Let us not forget the 45-0 skull 17ing he put on Croomz to run his *** out of town. The one time in life I was happy for an *** whipping at the hands of the Rebels.

not getting embarassed by Vanderbilt, Jacksonville State, and Kentucky? If he had won those games and BYU and had lost to MSU, he'd still have a job right now.

If he had just beaten Vandy the last two years, JSU last year, and Kentucky and BYU this year, we would've gone 6-6 last year, and we would be 5-4 this year with a win over La. Tech making us bowl eligible. He's still have a job if that were the case.

No, since WW II, Slick Morton, Murray Warmath (2 years), Darrell Royal (2 years) and Wade Walker (1 tie) went 'winless' in the Egg Bowl.

While Croom, Felker, Tyler, Shira and Davis all won at least one Egg Bowl.

Think most credit should go to John Howard Vaught tenure from '47 - '70.
