I am sick of this sh#$ just as much as you are, but who in the hell is going to come to this debacle and to try and change things. Greg Shiano turned downed Michigan last year, Skip Holtz will wait for a better opportunity and Fedora would view this job as a lateral move. I dont care what you say, but we would have to settle for a Division 1-AA or Division II coach, or try and catch an up and coming coordinator that is actually innovative. Crooms downfall is his predictability, and doesnt know how to put a couple of wrinkles into a gameplan, something that Houston Nutt is very good at doing ......

we can hire a very good coach for 1.7 million a year. There are plenty of good coordinators out there. There are great coaches at smaller schools. Ohio St hired a 1-AA coach if you'll remember. We can and will hire a good coach next time, the leadership has changed and will make sure of it.

would be a great hire...****, they put up 21 on UGA...14 more than Crooms put on GA Tech. This from DSS last year:

3. Chris Hatcher - Georgia Southern - .862 (7 seasons) - What is it about Georgia Southern coaches? That AD must be living right.

Chris Hatcher will make the bigtime, and he will make some lucky BCS conference AD look like a freakin' genius. He's the poor man's, Division II version of Steve Spurrier...the next generation (Hatcher's in his mid 30's): In 1994 he won the Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded to the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year. After a few short stints as an assistant he returns as head coach of his Alma Mater (Valdosta State) and immediately resorts to *** kicking and name taking. He turns the program around. Hatcher goes to the championship game twice, wins it once (seeing the Spurrier parallels?). By the way, Look at that winning percentage!?! From what I gather, he's a highly intelligent, ex-qb who will works his *** off. Did I mention he's a winner?

Now, Hatcher is taking a Georgia Southern team that former UGA assistant Brian VanGorder all but destroyed in one year (yet another example of why you don't gamble on an assistant) and quickly turning the Eagles into national contenders yet again (7-2). What else do you want? Damn. (Wiki, Profile)

Update: he's 2-1 with a loss to UGA

There are plenty of great young HEAD coaches that would take the State job...you just gotta look beyond the obvious and do your homework (what an AD gets paid to do)

You can get a good coach to come to State if there is financial incentive. Coaching in the SEC is a big deal, whether its with a major power like LSU/Georgia or with a--how can I put this delicately--not-quite-so-major power like Ole Miss/MSU.

We are paying Sly the idiot 1.7 mill and getting nothing out of it. You don't think that there are guys out there willing to come coach in the SEC for that kind of money? I think you are a bigger idiot than Crooms.

As long as the next coach has never coached with/under Bear Bryant or any of his disciples, I don't care who it is. I'm sick of all these damn Bear Bryant wannabes and our hiring decisions seemingly based on his Alabama ties. We're not Alabama, the man's dead, there want be another, move on.

As one who attended many Navy games the last 4 years, I was hoping and praying Johnson would be passed over until MSU came along and hired him. Oh well. And to those who said his offense would never work, the phone lines are open...

Johnson can coach with anybody - to think his team is already executing their offense 4 games into Season 1 and MSU's offense still looks lost in Season 5...

Well, I'm now on that "apathy wagon" someone mentioned earlier. No reason to get heartburn about all this - we're toast.

he would do no worse than what we have. we could pay him 250K a year....let him bring in proven coaching talent and pay them a 100K each. All of a sudden we have $$$ to do something with and we will be just as successful as the "coach" we have now. As a matter of fact, it would be the story of the year in college football when we actually compete. There are outstanding coaches all over this country who can do what Sylvestor is doing, and they would be dog happy to get a shot. I would renew my seats if we did something like that. The 1.7 M salaries should be for elite and proven coaches....ours is not close to that. Who gives a crap what others pay? Paying a coach what others make does not make us competitive on the field. I am fed up with this mess. IF we are going to pay big bucks then go hire a big buck....not someone who seemingly has no clue about how to manage a game.

can we get someone that does not glorify our opponents. Can we get someone who isnt interested in following the bear but instead starting their own legecy. its 17ing ******** hiring a guy who is mentally incapable of changing his offense. Today he really sounded like he is ready to quit.

a potload of money available to us through the SEC ESPN contract that was not available to us before. If a change does eventually have to be made, our situation, especially without the probation factor, will be a much easier sell to a top notch coach. Now with that being said, I still would like to see Croom succeed, but at this point I doubt he can unless he has a major change in direction on his offensive philosophy. He's fighting a double edged sword here, his offense system is not going to work without top notch talent and unfortunately he will likely never get much top notch offensive talent because his offense performs in such a subpar manner.

If you actually would have read my post OEM Dawg , I said we are just going to go after either a proven coach at a small school, or an up and coming assistant. Some on this board were throwing out names like Schiano and Skip Holtz, which I found laughable because those guys are not going to come to MSU

jeez. 1.7 will bring in a lot of people who are good. it is a CHALLENGE to those who are good coaches to make their mark by turning a team around. this is a clusterf%^k but it is one that makes you rich and gives you the opportunity to do something great.

And there'll be plenty of bites on it. Knowing how Greg Byrne works, I bet he has a "Wanted" list in his drawer, and has had one of his assistants contact some agents already.
