I just got Netflix for the first time last week. I haven't watched many of these TV shows I hear so many talking about and part of the reason for getting Netflix was to watch some of these so I'd be more culturally relevant and know what people are talking about.

I started with Breaking Bad. I'm about 35 epiisiodes through the 62 show series. (No spoilers please.) It is pretty good although I think the first two seasons were the strongest and after that it's not quite as good.

One thing I find amusing is that Jesse Pinkman still calls Walter White "Mister White" because he was his high school teacher. He's this streetwise kid, making and dealing drugs, shooting people, respecting nothing and no one, and yet he still calls his partner in crime "Mister." LOL.

It's pretty good. Any comments are welcome as are suggestions about what to watch next. One thing I'm going to watch are the stand up comedy shows since I'm losing touch on who are the good comics nowadays. But I'll likely be watching more series too.

Dexter
Bloodline
Salem
American Horror Story

There are a lot of really good documentaries in there too.

Holy ****... where to begin. You've got a year of binge shows you can watch on Netflix.

BB was a very good show all the way through, I enjoyed it very much.

Bloodlines season 1 is excellent although I haven't seen season 2 yet.
I don't know if Netflix has it but Justified was a good show as well.

If you haven't watched the series but you're going to do so beware that there are spoilers below.

So I finished watching the series. I think they could have done without Season 5. They should have had the bomb killing Gus Fring at the end of Season 4 be the end of the series while tying up the loose ends then. I don't really see the point of Season 5 other than to point out that Walter White was just insane whatever. Before that his schtick about wanting money for his family made some sense but that all went out the window in Season 5.

I was sad to see Mike get killed I liked his character. He had a good dying line to Walt of "Shut the f*** up and let me die in peace." In general the show used swearing well. Rather than having it fly left and right and lose its impact they used sparingly but effectively.

I thought for sure we'd see Jesse's family again. I was hoping for some closure between him and them. Jesse kinda went mental there for a long stretch in Season 5 and I didn't find that very interesting.

I was really sad to see Hank get it and his partner Gomez too. I liked the Hank character. But he played the good, tough cop all the way to the end including not grovelling to the bad guy that was about to kill him and telling him to F-off instead. And he had a good line to Walt shortly before the bad guy shot him too of something like "You're the smartest guy I know but you're too stupid to know he made up his mind ten minutes ago" in reference to the bad guy about to kill him. Walt was bargaining with the bad guy for Hank's life but Hank knew the bad guy was going to kill him all along and Walt didn't.

You're supposed to suspend disbelief on this stuff and that's fine but I think they went a bit overboard with that when they managed to arrange for 10 guys in three different jails to all be killed within a two minute span.

It's just a show so it's silly to think about but I can't help but pretend/wonder what would happen after the show is over. Walt and Hank are both dead. Skyler and Marie are sisters so they'll probably make up since they'll have little choice. Poor Walt Jr is going to have a helluva time coping with all this. And then Walt Sr. left him money for when he turns 18...nice gesture but he'll probably piss it away because he'll be only 18 and only 10 months removed from this whole insane tragedy. I guess Skyler will do okay financially since she does have the car wash.

And how about the other six barrels of money containing about $70 million? Walt killed all the people that knew where that was (okay, Jesse killed one of them when he strangled Tod) so that money is just hidden somewhere and nobody knows it's there. At one point someone referred to Tod as a "dead-eyed Opie," which was a good line since he did look a bit like Opie but was creepily detached.

Overall it was a really good show.

I think the Sundance series Rectify is still on there. Season 1 was great - a really interesting perspective on someone who was sentenced to be executed at 18 only to be released 20 years later. I didn't like season 2 as well, but I still intend to watch the remaining seasons.

I liked Longmire. It's a little campy at times, but I like the modernized old West feel to it.

Daredevil is solid, and I liked Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as well. Not bad if you like the Marvel series.

I think Justified is only available on Amazon Prime. It's a great show though. Elmore Leonard's dialogue is always great, and they honored that in that series. In a lot of ways, Raylon reminded me of Paul Newman's character in Hombre. That movie, if available on Netflix, is a must see.

I'm only half way through the Longmire season 4 (I think) that was a Netflix production. Still a solid show though.
