Who will be the better college player Bumphis or Patterson?

They are very different types of recievers and will be used in different situations. Honestly I cant say one is better than the other till I see something on the field. 40 times are similar and they both have good hands. Only big difference is size, and thats why they will be used differently.

maybe you should stop posting for the day if Patterson is the only recruit that mattered for you.

an average reciever until he made that circus catch. Then he jumped to a 5 star. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him, but I honestly would rather have someone with a level head.

Bumphis will be playing the McCluster/Harvin type position. Patterson will be playing almost strictly as a wideout and a deep threat. It's really not even fair to compare the two, and at this point it's pure conjecture to assume you have a clue which one will have the most success.

he obviously was highly thought of just to be playing in that game - not just "an average receiver".

even though we didn't sign him, i like the receivers we're bringing in - could be the best receiving corp we've had in a long time (which, of course, isn't saying a whole lot).</p>

Obviously it will be Pat Patterson. He will average 100 yards per game rushing out of the Wild REbel. He will have at least 200 yards per game recieving. And he will probably have another 100 yards per game in the return game. I also expect him to average 10 interceptions, 100 tackles, and 69 field goals per year over the next 3 years before he declares for the draft and is the number 1 pick of the last place New Orleans Saints.

Of course it would have been nice to sign Patterson, but I'm very happy with the group of receivers we did sign.

There are many average players who play in the All-American game, take both of Mike Golic's sons for example. As far as receivers go, Antoine Burks AKA Tony, played in that game and it might've been because he played for us, but he seemed to be fairly average to slightly above average to me.

Bumphis will be. Patterson is an arrogant, self-righteous prick. He's all about "me" - a cancer like Terrell Owens. Sure, he'll have some great games, but his attitude will be a major issue. We already know his "word" doesn't mean ****.

there are busts all the time - i'm not talking about a highly rated player being average at the next level. he said that patterson IS just an average receiver. well, not many "average" players make national high school all-american games. do you really wonder why golic's sons were in the game? patterson was obviously not picked for the same reason, so they must've been going with something else.

Patterson is a big WR with great hands

Bumphis is a slot WR with some moves

Maybe they will both be good. Face it, MSU WR's can't be any worse.

I'll never understand why he didn't get more targets. When he got chances, he made some awesome plays. I thought he would be a major part of our offense, but I was wrong.

due to his overall skills... a potential QB, in some situations yes.

Can patterson play QB? can he throw a quality pass? I don't know... but Bumphis can!

I'll take Bumphis for MSU!

Because he chose Miss. State, therefore he's good and pure. Patterson chose the Wousy Webs, therefore he chose the side of evil and will spend the rest of his life speaking with a lisp.

Jake Golic is rated as the 6th best prospect in Connecticut. I have a hard time believing the offered him solely based on talent, but I could be wrong.
Mike Golic is a better prospect, but a 265 pound center was invited to the US Army All American game? They both seem like normal prospects, and not anything that would warrant in invite to the All American game, which was what I meant in the first place.

and used properly may be very effective, but paint me unimpressed with the others in that crew. One had one offer and one offer only, and the other two while showing a very impressive list of offers took no other visits. Considering they are not Mississippi guy and claim offers from home state school I find it strange they never visited. But they may be studs. Good thing is...we will find out.

strange that they didn't visit in-state. but they my be studs - we will find out. paint me unimpressed.

than a 5 star player with offers from everyone in the country. I wasn't trying to down your class. I think under the circumstances you have a very good class. I ws simply responding to backer claiming all your WRs were better than PP. And honestly, I wasn't downing those guys. But I guess relevance is not your thing.

Smiley is a non-qualifier and looks headed to Butler CC. Crawford is one of our less heralded guys and we will see I. FL is a different animal. Not having an offer for one of the big three there. He may he be a grade risk, I honestly don't know.

Tim Simon is a good player and one that had offers from Clemson, UT, KY and AU (new staff). He did not have or claim a Bama offer. We had to fight Clemson til the end. It will be interesting to see where he falls position wise. I am not claiming he is the better than any 5 star LBs or RBs.

i was just stating that either your logic is flawed or your own class can be scrutinized the same way. i just picked a few random signees from your class.

"paint me unimpressed" sure does sound like an attempt at an underhanded put-down.

he claimed a bama offer on scout. plus, he had an auburn offer and didn't visit there - same thing.

he claims a FSU offer, but no visit. it's the same damn thing you're saying about our receivers. so that makes him a suspect recruit?

i think backer is trying to say that our collection of several recruits will be better (for us) than if we only had 1 pat patterson.

I was not scrutinizing your class...I said you have a good class. I even said that those guys may be good WR.

Underhanded? Context is a funny thing. Even if that was a comment included outside of that thread I don't see how that is anything at your class as a whole. But, looking at it for what it was...a response to Backer...you are really just grasping. I am not downing your damn class. I am responding to what I considered a silly statement. I used the recruiting garbage (since that is all we have) to explain why I think it is silly. At no point did I reference your class as a whole and never was the class as a whole a subject of this thread. Good grief.

Tim Simon DID NOT HAVE A BAMA OFFER. If I was arguing he did, despite not visiting, I guess it might be relevant. Simon was quoted as saying he did not have an offer. I read it. I don't care what Scout has down, nor do I understand what that has to do with anything. Suspect? Maybe so. Not sure what that means, but like I said I am not going to claim he is better than Trent Richardson or T'eo, so I am not sure why it matters. I suspect Tim will be a pretty good player one day. Not sure where he will play.

Again, I am not comparing Crawford to a 5 star. I don't think Crawford had a FSU offer. So again, not sure what this matters. I will take Crawford types as a "unheralded recruits" that fill out a class. We need some secondary guys to be ready in two years. I hope Frank or some of this class provides that.

Maybe he did, if so that is a silly argument without including our entire WR class. 4 WR better than one? Umm...ok.

I assume that Sanders and Heavens are good players, but I assume there is a reason why they had so many offers but the recruitment went the way it did. Honestly, I know nothing about them, maybe they just love state that much. Sanders interview after his visit to MSU really sounded that way (sarc). Sometimes (see Smiley) it is grade related. I really don't know.

But, I like your class just fine. I will also take mine. Tim Simon and Crawford included.

so you can pick and choose which recruiting garbage you want to believe?

Simon was quoted as saying he did not have an offer. I read it. I don't care what Scout has down, nor do I understand what that has to do with anything.
your argument is that players who have offers from in-state SEC schools who do not visit that in-state school are not impressive, and something must be wrong with them to not get a visit with said school. so it certainly is relevant if you have a player from alabama, who reportedly has offers from BOTH alabama and auburn, and who doesn't take an official visit to either school.

the auburn offer alone makes the point still valid, since you are selective with your recruiting info. plus, you "don't think Crawford had a FSU offer". is this from the recruiting garbage? because that garbage says he did.
