then about 4-5 different players with about 5-6 carries per game, including Chad Bumphis. Relf will lead us with about 700-800 yards and we'll have a bunch of guys with 300-400 yards.
We are going to have the Black Tebow at the helm this year- except that Relf takes advantage of being the QB by getting laid alot, likes to smoke weed, is RH'ed, and won't be fellated by any media other than Veazey
He looked good in limited duty last year and has another year of strengthening his knee under his belt. I think he has put on some weight too. I am thinking he might surprise some folks. I think he will be given every chance to win the lion's share of the carriers early on. Ballard is a close 2nd in a Ducre-type role.
I am thinking the carries are going to break down like this (unless/until someone steps up and really claims a major role at RB):
Elliott 15
Relf 15
Ballard 8
Conner 5
Perkins 3
Bumphis 1
Obviously that scale will slide, but I look for Relf to be the constant at 15-18 carries per game, obviously depending on the flow of the game. I think Perkins will be used much like Heavens was last year, just a sporadic shot at a home run on a sweep or reverse. I think Ballard will probably wind up being our short yardage back (besides Relf) because he has really good vision and balance. Conner definitely has the better makeup for that job but probably has a little to learn about his footwork and finding the crease in those short yardage plays.
If we want to see a model of exactly what our offense will look like this fall, just look back to Mullen's last 2 years at Florida. Obviously, we won't have anywhere near the talent that offense had. But we'll be doing exactly the same things.
I just think he has the most big play potential of the bunch excluding Perkins down the road. Do I think it will be him? I have my doubts. But if it is we will get more big plays than if it were Ballard.<div>
</div><div>Relf is the safe choice but if he goes down we will have to adjust and I think it goes through Elliott at that point.</div>
But I just don't see it happening for a couple of reasons.
1) As much as he improved his accuracy, he's still not a good enough passer for us to ask him to do that very much..
2) Our offensive line is gonna be pretty good I think, or at least good enough to hold their own against nickel defenses.
Let's say he gets sacked 15 times this season and averages 7 yards per sack- that's 105 negative yards...very reasonable numbers
Let's assume he gets 175 carries (I think he gets that at a minimum) and averages 5 yards a carry (averaged 6.6 in 2009)- that's 875 yards
That's still 770 yards rushing from the QB position. And with us rotating backs and using each ones strength to make the offense the best it can be, it's going to be hard for one of them to beat him unless one of the guys distances himself from the others.
at first you were calling 1,000 yard rushing for Relf.....<div>
</div><div>Then you said at least 800 yards rushing for Relf....</div><div>
</div><div>Now it's 700 and change, whats it going to be? Just for the record..........</div>
but I will say, it would very difficult to expect any QB to manage the game/team, be expected to pass the ball effectively, and then get about 15 carries per game.
At least a running back can come to the sidelines and get a rest.
Just saying 15 carries for about 12 games is a heavy load, and somewhat risky.
I'm sure we will have multiple RBs withover 300 yards rushing, but I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if Ballard ends up getting the bulk of the carries as the year goes on. Elliot will be given every chance to prove he is capable of being the "man," but I think Ballard's ability to run between the tackles will lead to him becoming the go-to back. Conner could see his carries increase as the year goes on if he can become more consistent. Perkins is the enigma to me. I don't see him getting more than 4-5 touches a game, but I think we need to find a way to get him the ball somehow.
Thus the most yards. Relf will probably be second or third in rushing yardage and will have the highest yards per carry.
But Relf, in my opinion, will not have too many direct snaps. It will be zone reads and options for the most part. Give him the out of playing the ball off to someone else so he doesn't have to take as many hits. Don't want him getting injured.
