Who will reach their respective sports post season play first. And sorry Stans the NIT does not count.

I realize of course that Stans has been here but who will get there first as of right now in your opinion?

i know he isn't your favorite guy out there along with a bunch of folks on this board but the other two guys have yet to coach a game at State and both are in full rebuild mode. i would be very impressed if Mullen were able to get to 6 wins next season but with our OL situation I don't think it will happen.

Also, getting to the CWS is much harder than the other two (which has already been discussed). Cohen may get to the regionals though which I would think is more similar to the NCAA's in basketball.

I like Stansbury, I just don't think this team this year is what everyone hoped it was going to be. If they stick together after this year NCAA's should be a lock next year.

Mullen and all of us would be ecstatic with 6 wins next year. Between not having a QB and a swiss cheese o-line I think that will be out of reach.

I understand that the CWS is the hardest to reach but with what Cohen did at Kentuky and our schools baseball tradition and aparent recruiting advantage I don't think the CWS is going to be a once in 10 years thing anymore. I think It might be a once in five years thing or better. Cohen is a helluva coach.

Edited to add: This isn't a poll about who will do what more consistently. It is a poll as to what will happen first in the immediate future.

with the loss of Gordon and Rhodes plus the Hans transfer to go along with the unexpected transfers from year before last. We have one consistent player, Varnado. Beyond that, we have a 3rd year erratic guy in Stewart and a LOT of new guys trying to get adjusted. Johnson has been around but the guy is too brittle to be counted on and I'm starting to wonder if he will ever play much again this year. Maybe next year we can see if there is a shot to get back to the NCAAs.

so that leaves Cohen to do it this year (not going to happen) and mullen to do it in the fall (most likely not going to happen) and stans 2 seasons to get it done prior to them. i would say he has a better chance.

there are 34 bowls, so 68 teams play. basically, MSU just has to have a winning record and be in the top 3/4 of the conference and they will be in a bowl game.

for baseball, that **** is so much more difficult.

and for basketball, there are 32 auto bids into the tournament of 65. figure on 8 of those 32 actually getting in for sure without winning the conferece, and you have to be in the top 40 in the country to then get an invite(without actually winning the conf tourney). basically better than the top 1/2 of the conference(right now).

so 1 of 68 for football, 1 of 8 for baseball, or 1 of 40 for basketball.

i know its been stated, but that **** is all over the map for comparing.

ill go basketball though.

I think six wins is doable and that should get us to a bowl game in 2009. The basketball team will be lucky to get a NIT bid this year. The CWS is hard to make for good teams in good years, so that's out. Simply put, Mullen wins on simplicity of the task.

I would have made the milestones:
Mullen - Upper tier (e.g. Cotton) or BCS bowl
Stans - Sweet 16 (really, it should be elite eight, but we'd settle for sweet sixteen based on his prior chokes)
Cohen - Super Regional

Stans makes the dance this year than Mullen makes ANY bowl next year?

Nah.....6-6.....We do that in year #1, if he is good at what he does and somebody doesn't give him a damn free pass to screw off for 3 years.

You guys are all talking about the CWS being the "Post Season" for baseball. But, wouldn't making it to a regional be considered post season??? If so, there are some numbers above that are a little off. Seems like the ratio or odds of getting to post season play would be just as good in baseball as basketball.

Just saying...

a regional would be considered post-season play in baseball, I think the CWS was specified to even up the odds a bit.

You would think it would be useful to read the other posts in a thread before you post but apparently the fella you replied to begs to differ.
