Who would be your choice for Special Teams coach?

I know the board is split on him, but I would love to get Buddy Stephens on the staff one way or another. I don't know how/if he knows anything about ST coaching or if it would be unheard of for a JUCO HC to go to a position like that but the guy just wins and we would have easy pickings at EMCC.

You realize you have to get rid of an assistant or position coach first. You can't have an infinite amount of coaches. Although there are workarounds. Just know he would have to do ST+whatever guy you just fired.

And there isn't an infinite number of practice hours in a week. Alot of the special teams problems are due to a lack of practice time. Granted we have more room for improvement than most, but special teams play as a whole is way down from where it was 10-15 years ago.

It shouldn't take much time to teach don't 17ing fair catch a punt behind the 10 yard line.

Dan can coach QBs

You realize you have to get rid of an assistant or position coach first. You can't have an infinite amount of coaches. Although there are workarounds. Just know he would have to do ST+whatever guy you just fired.

Then we get rid of the current QBs coach. Other option is TE/ST coach.

It's an upgrade from being an assistant coach at Germantown pro bono.

Would make an excellent special teams coach, even though the odds of it happening are -100000000%. The anti-Freeze.

Realize our QB coach is also our offensive coordinator, which I have no problem canning.

TE/ST coach is what a lot of programs have. Most schools just have a single Secondary coach. We have Corners coach and Safeties coach. Luckily they are 2 of our best coaches.

This is why you have a football-only practice facility that has coaches' offices overlooking it. All the big boy programs practice WAAAYYYY more than what they are allowed to and here is how...

Players can now "voluntarily" practice on their own time while the coaches watch from the confines of their elevated, glass offices. Of course, the coaches can't have contact with players during these "voluntary" workouts, but rest assured there is someone that relays info to them. This has been the first year we are able to fully exploit this loophole like other schools do. This is a reason Dan wanted the football-only facility before the stadium upgrade.

How 'bout Shame Beamer. He married a Starkvegas girl....shades of Crooms?

His old mans teams have always been top notch in special teams, especially blocking fg's and punts. But he's "been there done that" in Starkville, doubt he would want to again. I'll second one of the other nominations, under Jackie we always seemed to have had a kicker and punter.

JWS took special pride in special teams. He "got it" as far as the importance. I'll give him that. Looks like Shame Beamer is making about $217,000 at VT...forget him.

You're probably not the first to hint. If he's a good coach, guess he ain't bragging if he can back it up. Having typed that, he's probably under the microscope on a continuing basis.

Anybody but Dan Mullens.

Or Stephens. He would have us on probation before he got here.

I met Wes Shivers my freshman/pledge year when volunteering to set up our tent for my fraternity in the junction and he told me then in 2009 that Mullen would be smart to hire Jackie as SPT coach. That guy was nuts. TAP OUT galore and was partying with all the Pony strippers (the good ones, if there are good ones? They were probably from Memphis) at like 3 in the afternoon. His "girlfriend" was wearing a sexy librarian outfit. I was too young to remember him as a player, but as a bulldog he's been my favorite since.
