Who would be your top 3 DC's to replace Torbush?

at TCU. He won the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach a couple of years ago, I think.

I believe that we could get him to come to the SEC.

Willie Martinez looks like he will be available.

Turner is the best defensive coach we've had for 2 seasons running. It amazes me what he got out of the DL last year, with virtually no talent on hand. The DL this year is vastly improved with very little talent at DT. He's a young guy and deserves a shot as a DC. We did the same thing with Cheese last year, and that worked out pretty well. Brick would be my first choice, but at some point, Turner's production deserves the opportunity.

Next to Ellis Johnson, Brick Haley was the guy that most impacted our defense the last time it was good. We had a steady stream of badass DL'men when he was here. Not super star blue chip people that were already good. People he coached up.

He left us for the NFL. I see he is LSU's DL coach now.

I have no idea if he is DC material or more or a position coach. He'd be worth looking at.

like we got Mark Hudspeth. Ron Roberts from DSU is a defensive-minded coach I believe.

State is like 10th in the SEC in sacks and we get 0 pressure from our front 4.

You might can say that we dont have a very talented DL, but that kinda comes back to Turner doesn't it? I will say that Cox and Boyd look like future NFL players.

We may not have very many sacks, but we are generating pressure. Our front 7 is pretty good. QBs are getting rid of the ball quickly because their WRs are so wide *** open from the snap. For the most part, QBs aren't just sitting back there with all day to throw. And we've faced some fairly mobile QBs through 6 games: Rutland, Keenum, Jefferson, McKenzie, Nesbitt are all extremely mobile. That's 5 of the 6 QBs we've faced. And Keenum has one of the best clocks in his head for getting rid of the ball I've seen in a while. I can't count how many times Saturday we'd get within a step or two of the guy and he'd throw the ball then take a shot. And you can't exactly sack a guy that primarily runs the triple option - Nesbitt.

The guy from TCU would be good if he gets any credit for the defense and it really isn't Patterson running the show. Some other guys that come to mind with little to no research:

1) Vandy's DC. They do well every year with little to no talent and a pitiful offense.

2) Zook (if fired from IL). I'm not saying he's the best DC we could find - but dude can recruit and in college getting the talent is a large part of the equation.

3) Al Groh (if fired from VA). Yeah, he's old like Torbursh and I'd have to look at VA's recent defensive performance, but has a nice DC resume.

4) The other Stoops from Arizona if he's fired

5) As others have states - some whiz from DII or something. At least as a position coach like we did with Hud.

6) Somebody from VT - those guys always have an above average defense.

7) Some position coach from the NFL with college experience recently. Preferable someone with strong resumes in work with secondaries.

I simply can't get behind Turner even though he might be a good coach and I can't get behind Haley either even though I know he was a good position coach. I'd prefer a guy with lots of resume success defending the pass since more and more teams run the spread so that's a point of emphasis in my opinion.

I think our line has seriously underachieved under Turner. All are guys know how to do is push. It is like they treat the opposing OL like a sled and just try to drive them back. Very poor use of their hands, they can't get off blocks, no advanced technique that I can see, we often have a hard time getting off blocks. How many times have you seen McPhee running free at the QB? Not many, he is usually bull rushing his man 5 yards deep into the backfield. Is that disruptive, sure, but I think McPhee should be doing more than that. I am not a turner fan.

I am all for Brick Haley, but Mullen really needs someone who has a proven track record at DC. Bumpas would be a huge get, whoever mentioned that name.

If we can't get someone like that to come, assistants such as Haley are at the top of my list.

I watched USC's DL under Orgeron perform well. That doesn't mean he can head coach. I don't think David Turner is the answer as defensive coordinator. Honestly, I think the guy is a clown. I see some talented but young defensive linemen, but I don't see great improvement and honing of skills.

Regarding Ron English - the issues is that it was against Big 10 offensive teams which were mostly smashmouth. We need someone who has the proven ability to disrupt spread offenses.

1. We don't have Meechigan talent
2. SEC speed >>>>>>>>>>> Big 10 speed
3. Smashmouth style of play in the Big 10
4. Wasn't he DC when they lost to App State? If so, immediate "HELL NO."

Still, it might be worth a try. Certainly could do worse.

no way in hell should Joe Lee ever step his sockless feet back on our field unless it is a team reunion type deal at halftime or something.

.....MSU's perennially ****** offense suddenly looks like world-beaters compared to recent teams, because someone modern is running the show on that side of the ball now. Unfortunately MSU went the other route on the defensive side of the ball by hiring an over-the-hill DC who's last major job included being torched week after week by teams with modern offenses.
