I've walked a lot of sidelines in 20 years of covering football, can't think of another more classy or more friendly guy than coach A. One of my all time favorites. I'm a little sad to see him go but have so much respect for him that my sadness is personal. Glad he is going out when he wants to.

All the very best to one of the very best people I've ever dealt with in HS football. Legend does not do this man justice.

I'm very surprised he's stepping down after this season. I would think he wants to go out on top. Does it not look like it'll happen in the next few years. Montini guys?

Bu or Casey?

godfthr,

All bets on Bukovsky. It's a given he will be the next coach. I had always heard Joe Hyland was another guy Andriano could have take over after him but Joe left the school a long time ago and is now at a school in Michigan.

Either way Bukovsky is going to do a really good job.

Coach A will be replaced but in so many ways is irreplaceable. One of the great football coaches and gentleman in Illinois High School Football history. He will be sorely missed but he is not leaving Montini football entirely. Montini Football Twitter says that he will be heavily involved with Montini Football going forward.

Coach A really was the classiest guy I've ever coached against. One of my favorites was when montini had just beaten IC in a close game and instead of going to his team he came to the IC huddle and talked about how tough of a team IC was. They dont make them like him anymore...

Not the reason. Montini looks very strong from within.

He has 300 wins and a hand and a half full of rings. Nothing left to do but ride off into the sunset. Expectations are for a strong title run next year.

A thumbnail for those of us outside the Montini community about Coach Bu if you would

Montini grad, 27 years on the football staff, propelled the wrestling program into the current state with Izzy taking over and continuing the dominance, and led the softball team to a first state title this past spring.

Winner, approachable, defensive minded (which is a shift) but holds the program as close as Coach A. The only guy for the job, in my opinion. Big shoes to fill, but he won't back down and will continue the tradition built by Coach A.

Sounds like a perfect hire for Montini and I'm sure his buddy will be there to help him get comfortable and find himself as a first time Football HC. Nothing will change at Montini IMO. Except now they're afraid of Naz. J/k

He is or will be a Hall of fame coach. State championship rings in football, wrestling, and women's softball, all for Broncos. Played at Montini and has worked at Montini for nearly 3 decades. Point of information -coach A will be around the school and football program in a more specified reduced role.

That's good. A good MCHS is good for HS football. I was just looking at the lower level records and saw 2 wins for the frosh and 3 for the sophs and thought that things didn't look good.

Records are deceiving given who Montini played this year and moving best players up to higher levels. Not sure anyone is concerned inside the school. look at who they played this year. Teams 5 to 6 times their enrollment

Montini has been multiplied and "success factored" up to the point that some people seem to forget that their true enrollment is around 680 kids. Kudos to Montini always looking to play the big boys. I'm sure Coach Bu will keep the train rolling!

Hated to see Coach A retire. As mentioned on this forum he was not only an outstanding coach but also someone the players he mentored could look up to as an example both on and off the field. Hard to replace a legend. Don't know much about coach Bu except I seen him on the sidelines get fired up and motivate not only his defense but the offense too. His credentials speak for themselves so I see little change next year as far as coaching is concerned. Montini is returning a lot of very good starters both on offense and defense and some talented sophs and a few freshmen I am sure will get a chance to play on varsity. If the players can stay healthy next year Montini will be just fine.

Coach Bu was definitely next in line and deserves to be the next coach and I wish him good luck!

I would have also been very happy if Lewis Borsellino or one of the Borsellino's got the job or Joe Hyland who is now Head Coach of Grand Rapids West Catholic and playing in a state championship this upcoming week in Michigan.
