The members of Congress and the Senate who made that video telling troops to ignore “unlawful orders” are calling it free speech, but it is not. When elected officials who have authority over the military tell service members to brace for “unlawful orders,” it crosses a legal line. Federal law is clear. 18 U.S.C. 2387 prohibits influencing or undermining the loyalty, morale, or discipline of the armed forces. President Trump has not issued a single unlawful order. They cannot name one. So putting out a video like that only creates doubt inside the ranks, and that is the last place you want confusion or instability. Members of Congress and Senators do not get to hide behind free speech while weakening the chain of command. Their positions come with responsibility. What they did was not about democracy. It was politics aimed at the military, and it crossed a line the Founders warned about.
