Why are we assuming Garrett is coming to State?

Our QB situation would be terrible for him versus going to somewhere like Auburn where he pays his own way for 1 year and sits out for Newton's JR year, goes on scholly and sits behind Newton SR year and then slings the **** out of the ball his JR and SR years.

but LSU wouldn't have released him to MSU if he hadn't specifically asked them to. That's a pretty strong clue that we're at least pretty high on his list.</p>

Yes it's his hometown school, but maybe they also know he's not going to choose us.

If I were him I'd go JUCO for 1 year, graduate and then go somewhere else where the depth chart is in his favor with 3 to play 3.

..the guy sees himself as much more than a juco/Div II QB. But if he went to juco he wouldn't have to stick it out the whole year. He was a qualifier out of HS so he could transfer in December. But really, what does a year at juco get him?

They will probably have a few QBs on the roster. Garrett wouldn't likely just come in and be guaranteed to play for two years.

to school X or not to school Y.

Of course he sees himself as more than a JuCo/Div 2 QB. When did I ever state that Juco would be his last stop? Juco allows him to make a choice on the open market. It's not like he's going to play anywhere this fall anyways. If he went to Juco he could still enroll at State in Jan 2011 if he finds that to be the best choice for him.

Also, are we not already at 85 schollies?

If he already knows he wants to play for MSU, why not go ahead and start practicing with the team and learning the offense as soon as possible. I don't know if that's the case, but it does make sense since he specifically requested to be released to MSU.

And even growing up an MSU fan, the depth chart isn't favorable to him. Russell has had 12 months more time to get acquainted in our system, plus will be playing in it this fall versus CG sitting, so I consider it unlikely that he ever passes Tyler Russell. Could it happen? Of course, but I just find it unlikely. CG doesn't have the luxury of going into an unlikely situation. He's only going to have 3 to play 3 starting Jan 2011.

He made a poor choice going to LSU, and though it benefits M-State for him to come here, I don't see it as being the best decision for him to come to Starkville and it honestly won't make me any more wooly if he does come here.

even back when Garrett was committed to us and Russell was undecided. And I haven't seen anything from either of them since then to change that opinion. If he does transfer to MSU, I think the reason is that he learned in Baton Rouge that he won't be happy anywhere else but MSU, even if it's maybe not the best situation for him football-wise.</p>

One problem with him going Juco is if he doesn't shine then his options will be cut even more. I think it would be in his best interest to go ahead and choose the school that best fits his situation. If it's MSU then so be it.

...I'm simply saying SEC qb's transferring to juco are usually guys with grades/off the field problems. Garrett sees himself as an elite D1 QB. He's not going to juco for any reason whatsoever. I'd bank on that.

After his parents received a certified letter stating his scholly would not be renewed..... More to this story than meets the eye.
