Why are we not playing Morrow?

Looks like the other 4 star WR's from MS are doing just fine..

4 star's we swung and missed on: Brassell, Singleton, CJ (5 star), Whitehead... All have played in SEC games this year.

Blast and spin how you want. Just stating facts.

Moncrief is the real deal and Brassel is a gamer but they are being played out of a need. We have a deep receiving corp and makes no sense to play a true fresh just because another team is having success with their's. If he proves to be better than the others we are playing on the field, then by all means play them. We still have guys that are red shirt fresh that i feel "need" to be on the field but I'm not around the team all the time for practices, in the weight room, watching film, etc... so I don't know the attitudes, maturity, and any other variables that the coaches take into account when making PT decisions. I will however, trust the coaches and let them do the job that they were hired to do.

The only time you circumvent that is if you are desparate. We might not be good, but we arent desparate.

Next year we are being lead by a passing qb exclusively. That means we needhimmore next year than this year.

Brassell is one hell of an athlete and Nutt is right to play him. He is a fool for playing singleton.

IN the end, if Nutt makes it 5 more years he will regret playing Singleton.

Mullen on the other hand must know that he has 3 winnable games left and 2 games that he isnt expected to win. Make a bowl and keep morrow redshirted.

Morrow wont make a difference in the Bama or Ark games. He MIGHT make a difference in the UK and OM games. But to tell you the truth, if we lose those games without him, we need to be sitting at home.

and who is he going to take plays from? He and Malcolm Johnson are the same player- except that Johnson has already been in college a year.<div>
</div><div>Brassell is a player- but his talent has nothing to do with Morrow. Mississippi is playing those young guys because they have no choice- they f'ing suck. We have gone toe-to-toe with the number 1 team in the nation and 3 other ranked teams in SC, Auburn, and Georgia- huge difference in the programs right now

Agree that Ole Miss sucks, and they are playing a bunch of true freshman because they have to, but from watching the Rebs this season it looks like Brassell and Moncrief could both start for a few other SEC schools, us being right up there. I don't know if Morrow has that deep threat speed or not, but against USCe we were off by a foot or 2 on a couple of deep balls that would have changed the game.

Yeah maybe the Rebs will regret playing Tobias, but he's got 3 more years, and if you are trying to build a successful program you would hope that you can recruit talent just as good as him in the next 3 years to replenish the talent.

I guess I'm just a little frustrated because I think we haven't been playing some of our young talent (Lewis and Johnson) and Mullen has such a firm stance on redshirting every freshman, and I look at Ole Miss and they just went toe to toe with Arkansas and their true freshman (that we couldn't get) were a big part of that.

would have never played his freshman year if we weren't completely desperate at wr, and how damn good did he look for a true freshman?

Both Singleton and more than likely Brassell would have been redshirted for sure. We would have probably gone ahead and made Brassell a DB- I'm not sure how much playing time he would have taken from Banks, Broomfield and Slay. He may have been in the rotation, but at any rate no way do we play him 80 plays a game. Whitehead would have been redshirted at MSU. CJ Johnson probably plays some, but I doubt he starts. Aaron Morris would have redshirted as well. Moncrief probably redshirts as well. Cody Prewitt also redshirts- no doubt about that. Same for Golson.

Also, I'm not sure if Tobias will make it three more years at Ole Miss or not. The only reason he is playing at all is because he has threatened to leave a couple of times to Memphis of all places.

We're not playing very many true freshmen- Dee Arrington and PJ Jones are about it for us. Both in back-up roles. Had they gone to Ole Miss, they are major contributors right now. And that's not necessarily a good thing.

If you can not redshirt players, you can not develop them as well. The only people that should be able to come in as true freshmen and compete and start right away are people like Clowney and Lattimore at South Carolina. By playing these guys, they are losing about a year and a half of development right off the bat in terms of weight room development, conditioning, learning the game, etc.

..that the 2011 MSU WR corps were going to be the best in school history.

Remember that? Our stable of AA WR's were going to allow us to redshirt Morrow & not miss a beat.

Yet, week to week, we are being subjected to a bunch of uninspired underachievers who can't run routes or catch balls in traffic.

Except M. Johnson: The more M. Johnson makes big plays, the less you see of him. Which is about par for the course with Dan Mullen this year.

The receivers have benn uninspiring because they knew the guy throwing it to them couldn't hit the broad side of a barn until last week. If you didn't think that Chris Smith was inspiring last week, you weren't watching the game. Arceto looked pretty good as well. We are still dealing with huge deficiencies on the line as well that really undermine the deep timing routes.

Not to mention that we were going against the SEC's top pass defense last week.

How I wish we could have redshirted Bumphis, Chris Smith, Cox, Boyd, Cameron Lawrence, and Banks right now.

I understand why we didn't redshirt them, but it sucks that we had to play them.

Numbers are skewed for USCe for playing Auburn and Navy which are very run-heavy and Kentucky who sucks.

When are our receivers going to show up against SEC opponents not named Ole Miss?

Guess we will see the rest of this year and next if Russell can "inspire" our WR to get separation against an SEC defense.. still waiting on another Ark '10 performance in the passing game.

I was among the first to criticize him for his use of timeouts and play calls at Auburn, quitting vs LSU, and use of timeouts vs La Tech.

Nice deflection, but it still doesn't make you any less of a dubmass

skinny and got pushed around a little by the dbs. Tall but not a burner by any means, thought he would need a year to put some meat on.

Is this our coaches fault for not throwing and designing plays for him more? It looks like the few touches he gets are for decent yards. Am I overlooking designed speed run plays for him against SEC opponents?

2 Td's and 2 50 yard games against SEC opponents in 2 and a half years is about as underwhelming as it gets. I know it has been a run heavy offense the last 2 years, but isn't Chad our poster boy for the skill position (slot/wr)? If he is the best we've got GodSpeed to you Tyler Russell.

I hope Russell makes Chad all conference.. but boy the jury is still out.

1. You want us to play a skinny, tall true Freshman because Mississippi is playing their true Freshmen

2. We explain to you we don't have to, and they do it because they suck

3. You show us Bumphis stats- including how he was basically wasted as a true Freshmen

What am I missing here? The passing game is going to improve with Russell at QB- that's a given- my concern is the run game now- how much will it be affected?

aGAIN I'll say- they play those guys because they have to- and they are getting their *** beat doing it- we redshirt most of our guys, and LSU, SC, Auburn have trouble beating us- even with the OL injuries. Our bit playing Morrow has had ZERO effect on our offense thus season

What do you know about Morrow that the rest of us don't know. You must have special access to practice tapes or coaches evaluations to insinuate that he should be playing.<div>
