Bond came forward to set the story that we want set...from our standpoint/perspective...drive the message. Plain and simple. He did it now because he knows Auburn is about to get lit the 17 up.

It was more than likely sent forward but not much attention was paid to it. Bama caught wind and blew it up because they play them in a few weeks.

Did the NCAA question him or someone else or did he just release a statement? I'm not sure what's to be gained here.

Maybe it has something to do with the story coming out about donations to the Rev's chruch that was having financial problems.

Everybody knows Newton was paid and probably much more than a typical going rate and it's pretty much assumed Auburn opened up the pocketbook the way they shot up the recruiting rankings from nowhere. But I think it's also assumed to most players on most SEC teams that was decent recruits with multiple offers got a little green for their signatures.

I just don't want the league to turn into a recruiting allegations brawl

Bond was contacted during recruiting, he told Byrne, Byrne said ignore it and they told the SEC office just like they are supposed to. Warp into the present, the SEC obviously told the NCAA and the NCAA started digging. Either the NCAA has their bone and are about to ream Auburn's *** or someone got the story and felt like blowing it up. They called Bond and said, with or without the statement we are rolling with the story. He talked to his lawyers and released a statement to make it clear MSU had done nothing wrong.

There is no way, no way in hell, anyone with Mississippi State picked this moment to release this story. Someone forced Bond's hand, they had to.

this is pure fiction, but I like the way it sounds:

We told Slive back in December what was going down. I was at the dinner where at this crap started to surface. Take it for what its worth. Anyhow, nothing was happening. We hear how we are going to get screwed for the bells. So we say, if you don't cut us some slack, we will "leak" to ESPN.

There you have it, my purely fictious story.

going to the NCAA. I think either Bama or a media outlet forced the SEC's hand. There's no telling how much of this they sweep under the rug each and every year.

I have never seen a recruit or his family talk about the school they did not pick (MSU in this case) as much as they have. That SI article which basically said that Cam wanted MSU, but the 21 year old let his father have the final, ultimate say and Cecil issues the edict at the family table "It's Auburn" That sends up red flags left and right, and not to mention the "rented mule" comment.

Slive was brought in to clean-up the SEC and he has made it VERY clear that he won't tolerate the cheating. If there was an allegation sent to the SEC I fully expect they would talk to the school in question (with this allegation there was no school) and send it to the NCAA. At the time this was reported we were only talking about an agent asking us for money for a potential player. Why would the SEC sit on that? No one knew Cam was going to be a Heisman contender at the time.

I don't see Slive sitting on something like this and getting his *** in a sling later. Not with his "cleaning up the SEC" attitude.
