Why can't our receivers get separation?

TR threw some really pin point passes for completions on Sat. Our receivers have to get more open or we are going to pay with quite a few turnovers.

I don't it will matter this week they are horrible on defense. I think Bumphis and the other Senior WR have been with Tyler now for four years. I think they know where the ball is going to be and the defenders don't. Saturday those throws were needle into them and it looked like the defenders had no idea the ball was comming until Bumphis had the ball. I think this is why we have only one interception. They don't really need much seperation when you can anticipate where the ball is going to be. It is going to be hard to defend guys when the QB and WR are tuned in. Just my take.

Good question. Could be lack of speed, pour routes, combination. Don't know. But I saw more separation in the kenty game

when we actually start throwing pics then I will worry. You have no real reason to actually think we are going to turn the ball over a lot.

I think Tyler could hit Bumphis on a slant in the pitch dark.

They look like they've pretty much perfected that. And Bumphis is finally doing what we thought he could do since he got here, which is make the first guy miss and get extra yards. It's amazing how many more options a WR has after the catch when the ball is thrown accurately to him. He's getting 10-15 yards a pop because he's able to stay in stride, make a cut, and get extra yards.

Tyler is a very accurate passer, although his completion percentage doesn't quite show it right now. I can count about 5 or 6 3 yard lame ducks from getting hit while throwing, plus another 10-12 very catchable balls dropped. Only terrible pass I've seen this year was the pick against USA, which happens sometimes. He really doesn't throw pickable balls and he has the arm strength to make any throw we need him to. Him and the receivers seemed to be on the same page last week and I really think they will show out Saturday.

Thread hijack... I noticed Russell has a lot of overthrows on the intermediate passes especially outs. Is this due to the lack of crown on our field. To answer the OP I don't think our separation is any less than normal teams. Separation is really only discernable on the deep routes and we get more respect as a passing team than we have any time on the past. Yeah KP got a lot of separation on the post pattern in the day but every team in the league was expecting a steady dosage of JJ. As long as Tyler can make that throw in between the Zone cover and the deep safety sliding over like he did at KY, I'm good.

I just hope Tyler starts taking what's given against the blitz. I've been watching closely, and one reason he's taking big shots against the blitz is because he's trying to wait on the deeper route to open up. He's bad about trying to force it to the deepest route that will gain the most yards. Many times we have guys open on shorter routes that could easily get a first down, but it seems Tyler would rather have the tougher TD. Outside of that, he's doing a great job of protecting the ball and throwing accurate passes. If he learns to take that shorter throw though, he could avoid some of those big hits.

Pass D to go: UT#73, MTSU#79, Bama#3, A&M#82, LSU#2, Ark#118, OM#64.......

So just going by stats, Russell and our receivers will face much easier pass defenses in the second half of the season. Other than Bama and LSU, of course.

QUOTE]

I don't know but they haven't been able to for two years now. I honestly don't know how we are going to complete passes against Bama unless there's just a side to this offense that they haven't showed yet.

The lack of crown on the field would have the opposite effect. If there were a crown, he would overthrow it even worse as he would be standing higher than the receiver on the out route. My thinking is that he is afraid of throwing a pick. If an out route is read and jumped by a defender it often leads to a pick 6 just like Broomfield's pick 6 of Snead in the 2009 Egg Bowl. I think he tries to throw it where only his receiver could get it, but he misses often because that is a much tighter throw than he would have if he just threw a fastball to the sideline.

I just want to know why we cant win. We are so close. IF we can figure out the receivers thing...

maybe we'll get there.
