Tech stocks are going to continue to do well. If they don’t, we’re in for a massive and brutal recession, as we’ve let the Mag 7 all get too big to fail, and it won’t really matter how well the balance sheets look for anything outside of tech.
The really odd thing that’s happening right now is that most the Mag 7 hyperscalar companies (specifically Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta), are continuing to do relatively well or at least not completely tanking, in spite of the fact that most all of them have taken on hundreds of billions in high interest debt to cover commitments for the hardware for this data center buildout and other AI enterprise costs. Meanwhile, the actual hardware companies that have practically zero debt, and are selling all this shít too them at record prices (and have long term contracts to keep doing so for 2-5 more years) are getting absolutely destroyed in the market right now. And by “destroyed” I mean down nearly 50% from already dirt cheap valuations they had a month ago. It’s completely backwards.
Regardless of what anyone thinks about the long term profitability of AI and the data centers, the damn things are gonna be built, and the software is rolling out. Full stop. The ones selling the infrastructure for the buildings and the computing bandwidth won’t be the ones holding the bag if it doesn’t work out.
