Why do we need more data centers?

Yes, its mentioned right there in the 2nd paragraph. Wireless data transfer constraints are the biggest roadblock to it happening right now. Anyone who has ever had satellite internet can tell you this. Doesn’t mean that it will be a constraint forever, just means that it is right now.
I am not arguing that. I was just saying they are trying to figure it out. Ships in a port can run wires. Heck I would imagine most ports have the infrastructure to accommodate. The biggest ***** about data center is use of electricity and water. That would not be an issue.

Its not sexy but Wal-Mart is a great hedge. People can delay a new gadget, AI centers can delay constriction, but groceries are impossible to cut and tight budgets make Wal-Mart attractive.

WMT is up 21% over the past month while tech has been sodomized.

You know store managers at Walmart can make 6 figures? That's a lot of money when you consider how many Walmart stores there are. They should lower that wage and spread the money out to the workers for gas and nice houses in beautiful suburbs. In fact they should eliminate the position and lower their prices even more. Abolish Walmart store managers.

I also hear that Bozo is looking to put them IN, not on, the ocean. plenty of water for cooling

Salt water currently would not be an option, though at a certain depth, the temps could possibly eliminate the need for water cooling all together in theory

We are replacing all the Nimitz Class aircraft carriers with the Gerald Ford class. They are selling this ship for dollars. Why not just create a port for them. Put data centers in their hanger decks. It generates all its own power and fresh water. They could possibly put solar farms on the flight deck to generate electricity for the port. They would have a cafeteria for employees. Even living spaces for the Nuke guys.
i suspect the motion of the ships, even moored, would be problematic.

I’ll bite because I’m dumb. Youve made similar comments in a few different threads. Is this some joke I’m missing? Genuinely curious.

Nope. Just run the wires in flexible conduit**.

I don’t know if the idea would work, but many large ships tie into land based power when docked, I’m pretty sure. There are safe ways to make physical connections for utilities between floating ships and the dock.

I was more concerned with the effect the motion would have on the computers themselves. I know that the new GPU's are not as subject to motion, but I believe vibrations can cause issues. That being said, it does appear that their are companies working toward this end repurposing retired ships and possible salt water cooling. Hopefully it is or becomes a reality as you suggest. Naval ships with their nuclear reactors would be ideal, assuming those reactors create enough energy. Of course, we could just build more land based reactors, but that is probably a discussion for another day.

And I bet you drive a car that is almost as old as mine.
Don't know how old yours is. Mine is a 2021 Audi SQ5, almost 6 years old, and it drives and looks as good as the day I bought it. It has a lot of bells and whistles that I like, but newer ones like have more. My wife's is even older.

So, when I use my phone app to turn off my den lights when I go to bed, that command will travel about 500K miles to the moon and back to turn them off. That's weird to think about.
Will take a couple of seconds for the round trip, not counting processing time.

Except that tech on the whole hasn’t been sodomized.

Even after today, Apple and Amazon are both up 3% for the past month. MSFT is up 2%. Tesla, a complete shít investment who has never demonstrated any real long term profitability compared to it’s valuation, is only down 10%, which happens like every other month for them. Alphabet and Meta both missed badly on earnings, and dropped 18-20%, which isn’t catastrophic or unexplainable.

Where the real sodomy is happening is confined specifically to chips, memory, and other hardware. NVDA is down 23% for the month for no real reason. Intel, Micron, Sandisk, SMCI, AVGO, AMD, and others are down 40-50%, again, for no real reason. These are the companies who have all been straight printing money, with no debt, due to the epic supply shortage for chips and memory, and somehow they are ones getting hammered while those accumulating 9-figure debts at 8-10% interest in order to buy their product are somehow unscathed. It’s a damn circus.

Classic rotation- funds don’t make money sitting in treasuries. I sold after 25% gain

With the left winning this week, you're very likely to start seeing some big regulation of AI data centers through environmental laws. That's why the market took a huge hit yesterday in the AI sector.

Explain how any of that is going to happen with Trump still in the White House?

Also, explain why the market shot UP on Wednesday, and why the big dip happened yesterday and not Wednesday, if that was the reason?

It seems like a coordinated retail investor shakedown by institutions, so they can then swoop in and buy dirt cheap shares.

Trump alone can't control everything with both houses blue now. The builder related companies of AI centers are where the major drops were, not the AI companies themselves. Those centers were 100% on the ballot at the midterms.

He actually pretty much can, because the democrats still don’t have enough votes to override a veto.

I’ve heard from folks inside the industry that the data centers won’t even be needed within the next 10 years because of energy efficiency models. I guess that’s cool but what do you do with these data centers once they aren’t needed
