Why do you still go to the Lake?

I was looking at some of my bookmarked pages today and I realized I haven't been to gene's page in months. I have no use for the site, honestly. However I know several of you do, so that being the case, why do you still go there?

....I get tired of seeing all lake links over here as well as all the "you won't believe what the sheep are posting" crap over here. I really don't care what they're doing at Gene's place. I'm not a member, never have been, and have never been very far past the front page over there.

I will check out an article or two, see what's happening in the recruiting world and what not, but I can't remember the last time I looked at one of his forums. I don't understand why any of the folks that frequent this page often bother reading that crap. It's the same ole sunshine ******** being spouted that was being spouted 10 years ago. No entertainment value whatsoever. Whatever floats your boat though.

When I first stumbled across it after Jackie "retired" I tried to sign up for a username in hopes of getting some scoop on the coaching search, but it asked me for my home phone number, which I thought was pretty weird. So, I said screw it, stumbled on the Pack a day or two later and have never had a reason to try to go back.

Of course, it was funny when for awhile I was trying to be a super sheep over there and people here would repost my messages. I think I got called Ned 17ing Flanders after one of them. I wouldn't be surprised if a fair number of sixpackers still do this kind of crap just to get a rise out of us.

They have some good info and at times I enjoy getting on there to read some of the dumbass logic being spread around, usually by mrob who then receives 10 reach around posts from various sheep who think he is the ghandi of the croom loyalists.

I bet Gene has me banned on every scout site in the world.

Funny story. A friend of mine who does post over there had a link to my blog in his sig.

It's still there in his profile but it won't show up when he posts.

Gene is such a good shepherd.

He's keeping his little lambs away from the Big Bad Saddawg.

and then I follow the ]You think they'd fix that - no telling how much traffic they lose because people don't want to enter their password. I didn't visit for most of the summer because everytime I went there to read something it asked for my password. Finally broke down & entered it when the season started.

...and some may disagree with my reasons:

1. Once you filter through the "propaganda," there is actually some useful information. I like to get as much information as I can regardless of source. There is a lot of flak you have to fly through, but you eventually get decent information. For example, there is an excellent one on one with Coach Croom there now.

2. I have some old friends there, people I interact with on a personal basis, and I get occasional PM's from them there. I also like to interact with them. I have sat down and had drinks and dinner with Sundog, FloridaDawg, and many others, just as I have with you, Hooch.

3. Regardless of what you think of Gene, he and I go back 12 years or so, and although I disagree with him frequently, I know he is genuinely loyal to MSU. I can't turn my back on someone I know, like, and appreciate as a good, decent man.
