Why does Loserville have a better team then we do. The recruiting has been about the same. Is there that much difference in coaches? I know Petrino is an excellent offensive coach, but how about the other coaches. Are they that much better then what we have at UK? Our classes have been ranked about like theirs. Can't our coaches evaluate talent as good as Louisville coaches, or can Louisville coaches take inferior talent to what we get, and just do a better job coaching them?
I'm not interested in the BS, "We should have hired Petrino." We didn't and there is no use to "Beat a dead horse." That horse has already left the starting gate, so please give your opinion, in a civilized post.
I know all of our coaches aren't inferior to Loserville's, but I don't know which are superior or equal to Loserville coaches. I think at this stage, we know that Petrino is a better HC then Stoops, but how about Gran, Hinshaw and the others.
Is it our play calling, our conditioning, not giving 100%, etc. Let me know what you think.
Thanks

You pretty much answered your own question in OP. They have better coaching point blank period. And it all starts with the head coach. Petrino has proven himself before this year as a great offensive mind. For recruiting he might have the same ranking as us but he gets players that fit their system both offensively and defensively. They also get transfers which bolster their team with experience

There are many answers, but one important factor is team leadership. When Strong took over from Kraggie, the team was not very talented and expecting to lose. Strong found the guys on the team that would lead, and changed the expectation. The Cats seem to be in that expect to lose, given up thing. Stoops needed to find the natural leaders, but instead, you've had turmoil in the locker room. A talented team that, maybe, has given up due to poor leadership.

First, our classes are not about the same. Our classes have been better every year. The problem is we play in a real conference and don't have the luxury of playing joke of teams each week. If we had their schedule we would have won 8-10 games most seasons and our coaches would look like geniuses as well.

Because of Hurtt and his shady *** ways...plus they take anyone kicked off another team who can fill their two deep.

The number one difference has nothing to do with the coaches simply put Lamar Jackson. He makes UL look a lot better than the truly are. I'm not knocking Drew Barker but trade those 2 and you would see a huge difference.

Their defense is hands down better than ours. Devonte Fileds and Josh Harvey-Clemons are players that got kicked off their teams and UL took them on. They will take anyone with a troubled past if they are talented. While we kick players off our team (Hatcher, Tubman and, Meant) the players we have kicked off our team would all be starters. Which would drastically improve our defense more talent, more experience and more depth.

Yes, there is THAT much of a difference in the coaches. It's THAT important in college football.

Way better coaching. BP excels at doing way more with way less from a talent stanpoint. That's why he's a great fit for a school who struggles with consistently recruiting high levels of talent across the board. Stoops does basically the opposite.

Also factor in that BP has around 10 more years of HC expierence than Stoops has. It also hurts that around 50% of the players froms Stoops first 2 recruiting class are no longer on the roster. Still there aren't any excuses for the season to have started the way it has.

Rick Barnes had very high ranked recruiting classes at Texas in basketball. Where did that get them. Football is far more complex. You have to evaluate 25+ recruits every year compared to 3 to 5 maybe 6 at most in basketball.

If you look at the history of what Petrino has done with 2 and 3 star rated players over his career you'd see why. The first reason is he's knows how to evaluate talent better than any evaluators hired by the recruiting services. All 3 star recruits aren't created equal. Who do you trust to evaluate talent? The recruiting sites or Petrino?

The second reason is player development. He's one of the best in the business and that simply cannot be debated. He may be the best developer of Quarterbacks in college football.

The third reason was also stated already...he will take a few players that were dismissed from another school or maybe played in junior college. Devonte Fields and Harvey Clemons are two. But again they have done everything they are supposed to do since being here and they will almost certainly be drafted next year. Taking transfers isn't for every coach but Petrino handles it extremely well. Now I know you all don't believe in giving young men 2nd chances and you claim to be very clean. That's fine but forgiveness and compassion is the better way in my opinion.

Little change of subject. For the first time in Stoops tenure here the mass majority of fans are against him. Do you think it's made him realize he needs to put being a nice guy, his friendships and everything else aside. Then actually control the defense and let the offense play there game and to their strengths. Plus actually help bring out a mean streak in these players. The last real big hit I remember was when our player got in trouble for it. At the moment I can't recall exactly who it was or what game.

But to me this team minus a few play with no heart. They seem scared and tentative. But that's just my opinion.

I suppose the best evaluator of talent is the NFL. In this game on right now there are 4 players from UofL that are starters -
Buffalo - Eric Wood and Preston Brown
Jets - Lorenzo Mauldin and Calvin Pryor

Jets - Bilal Powell also gets a ton of touches behind Matt Forte. He is basically a co-starter.

Breno Giacomini would be a starter for the Jets but he's on the IR.

That is 6 players in one NFL game from UofL and they all start or play a significant amount of snaps.

Coaching: Bobby Petrino can coach. He took WKU players and beat Mark Stoops. Everywhere he's been he has PROVEN that he can develop players to reach their full potential and put together an offensive game plan that maximizes his team's strengths and puts them in the best position to succeed.

Again, there is concrete proof unlike Mark Stoops who offers words.

I've never understood why UK, and UK fans are against taking a player who has been kicked off a team, for something other then rape. If it's assault, or some other misdemeanor, doesn't that person deserve a second chance at another school, under a different coach. Yes, I know he has probably already had a second chance, but not at a different school. I'm not for giving up on a young person at 18 or 19 years old. If we give up on him at that age, we probably have a burden on society later in his life. I only know of one person who never made a mistake, and it "Sure in Heck" wasn't me, even though after being married 56 years, I still try and convince my wife I'm perfect. I don't think she believes that ****.

Petrino has a proven track record of doing more with less. Another reason UK should've hired him.

Also please note when UofL takes a few of these guys most of them have already spent a year at a junior college keeping their nose clean. The experience of going from a power 5 conference team to a junior college is I'm sure a humbling experience.

I wanted to think about the OP's question before responding but I'm not sure I can do better than the above. In the end, EVERYTHING basically comes down to the HC. JMO

Numerous reasons already mentioned here.

But there's one big reason for the current situation, and his name is Lamar Jackson. That kid makes them WAY better just by himself. Like last year's game. We were up 21-0, they put him in and they outscored us 38-3 the rest of the way. He was passed over as a recruit by many. Stick Jackson on KY and we're a helluva lot better.

If MB had made the right hire it's possible he could be wearing UK blue. Could you imagine?

Not this year. The SEC East is a joke. The SEC as a whole, is way down.

This is pretty much what I said back on the 7th post. It is nice knowing that others see that a very good and dynamic QB can do for a team.

I do recall before this season began many on this board were saying Jackson wasn't that good. That he was over rated and Barker could be better than him.

Similar recruiting classes but those rankings don't take into account all of the criminal transfers they bring in. This gives them a huge leg up. Plus we kicked two starters off the team in the off season so that didn't help matters and that never happens at UL. When is the last time they kicked anyone off the team??

Plus Todd Grantham is an excellent DC and DJ Eliot, well, lol.

I'm not so sure about that. The team I've seen these first two weeks couldn't beat Boston College or Wake Forest.

Petrino does not tolerate poor performance from anyone, players or coaches. Have you heard about how he conducts practices? Veteran coaches and players are amazed how they do things.

Giving a kid a second chance and giving a kid a scholarship to attend your University aren't the same thing. People who are paying for an education for a kid or two know that it's a big deal! Only the top kids should be rewarded, athletic or otherwise, imo!

EKCAT, If your not going to give a 18 or 19 year old kid, who had a scholarship previously, a scholarship, then you are NOT giving him a second chance. I know it's a big deal to pay for a scholarship, since I paid for my two children, both who went to UK, one who has a law degree, and one who has an MBA. I am now paying for my grandaughter, who is a Senior at UK, and helping with my twin Grandsons, who are at UK. All are on academic sholarships, but it still cost a lot of money. All kids are not like my grandchildren, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a second chance in life. That second chance will be the cheapest price we will ever pay.
