Under the old BCS system, you were correct that margin of victory did not matter. The college football playoff selection committee seeds the teams based on how impressive they look in their games each week. So the "no poll votes for margin of victory now" is incorrect.

The premise is false. Lamar Jackson and numerous starters have been pulled in the second half of every game. In the Marshall game, just shy of 60 points, Louisville drove it, on the ground, to the three and then let the last 30 seconds run off. They are scoring a ton of points, but they could have scored many more if they truly wanted to run up the score. Many more.
I have always believed that it is up to the team that is losing to wave the flag and start pulling their starters. Once they do the team that is up should start doing the same and let the 2's or 3's for both teams work on reps when the game is out of hand. If the losing team refuses to do so then the winning team is under no obligation to make any such substitutions if they are not so inclined.

Second unit got in and played an lackadaisical drive leading to a fumble and got yanked immediately even tho Petrino probably didn't want to do. If I was on a mission to win a title and my backup unit played like that,they deserved to get yanked

2 main reasons..In the past, he was in crummy conferences with UL, so the higher margin of victory, the better they would be perceived in the rankings...which matters in bowl games/Nat champ etc. Currently, he has a legit Heisman candidate. The more he pads his stats, and the more dominate the team appears, the more likely Lamar gets heisman and his team gets considered for the playoff. Pretty simple really.

Yep he sure pull the entire 2nd team because they were just sleep walking through the plays and not doing what they were suppose to do. It's called teach players to do their jobs or they will get pulled from the game.
There's a big difference in scoring when you're up big with a lot of clock in the game and running up the score. I never agree with taking the air out of the ball and working the clock when a team has multiple possessions and the ability to come back.
I also don't agree with being up big and scoring just for the sake of scoring in amateur sports. When you're up 3 TD's and there's less than a minute or you go down and slam dunk the ball as time expires up 20.
Professional sports, that's one thing. You're getting equal pay and you're on a level playing field arguably. But show some class and remember you're teaching these kids some life lessons. Or at least you should be
