Who knows. I was umpiring a baseball tournament this summer and was joking with a coach because he was wearing sleeves in ridiculously hot weather. His response was that he always wears sleeves.
Sometimes it’s to protect the skin.
I always do it...
#1. Sunburn and skin cancer suck.
#2. You just stay cooler, especially with breathable synthetic fabric. Holds a tiny amount of sweat, but not swamp áss levels like cotton.

I do it to for the sun protection reasons mentioned below. It’s hard to remember to keep sunscreen on herding a bunch of 10 year olds. I imagine it’s hard to remember to put sunscreen on when you’ve got the distractions that would come with coaching in the SEC.
Because it's cooler. Those Mexicans putting on your roof, many are wearing long sleeves, go to the Middle East, all laborers wear long sleeves. Keeping the sun off your skin keeps you cooler.

It’s that goofy hat that annoys me more than long sleeves.

Like it gets hot in that frozen wasteland you call home.
Why? Long sleeves protect the skin from the sun and once soaked in sweat are cooler than you think. Who does not know that? My guess is it's someone that has never had to work out in the sun.
12 hours out in sun without sleeves and I will wake up the next day with blisters from sunburn all over my arms. Then would have been dead by age 35 from cancer most likely. I had better cover that head too! Sunscreen? We don't need no stinking sunscreen.

Why does he display shoes? I wear long sleeves when I cut grass, but they are the ones made for fishing.
Probably because it’s cooler and provides UV protection for all the time he’s outside. I prefer a sun shirt to sunscreen. Of all my concerns about his decisions this ain’t one.
The sun sucks, I wear long sleave sun shirts all the time in the summer.
I’ll take a sun shirt or long sleeve shirt over sunscreen any day, especially if it’s in a dirty environment. All sunscreen does is attract dust.
I got used to that and jeans when I worked construction. Jeans got heavy with sweat, but once they were wet, any slight breeze cooled you off big time. People who didn't work outside thought I was crazy for my attire, and because I'd rather eat a sandwich in the truck at lunch than go inside an air conditioned fast food joint. Cooling off just made going back out that much worse...
Now I wear some synthetic long pants made for yard work along with a sun shirt and a bucket hat when I'm in the yard. I also put on a water soaked neck gaiter for dust and to piss people off who think that anyone wearing any kind of mask is a Fauci clone...
ETA: I later figured out that hospital scrubs worked great for bottoms when working in extreme heat. We didn't have a lot of Amazon choices at our disposal in the late 80's / early 90's.

Why do my teenage daughters wear sweatshirts all the time while living in the Mississippi summers? Sometimes there's just mysteries in life.
Drive by any construction site and most of the people are wearing sleeves, all the Hispanic do.
Our housekeeper used to say it keeps as much clothes to keep the heat off as it does the cold when I was a kid.
The sun and sunburn sucks. I live in lightweight performance hoodies during the summer. When I go SW fishing I look like I'm going on a arctic expiation with not an inch of skin showing.
Most people don't realize you have to reapply sunscreen every hour to be fully effective and if you are sweating it is more like every 30 min.

I regularly see young gentlemen wearing hoodies and stocking hats (i.e. beanies, took, etc) in the summer, I just don't understand it.
I have the answer: because they say PARKE across the front. At least, that's what they have to say this month.

I had no idea you could mainline beef tallow.
Back in the mid 90's, there was a guy on the PGA Tour who only wore long sleeve, no matter the weather. He played at the Deposit Guranty a number of times and I was always amazed to see him walking around Annandale in July with those long sleeves on. I can't remember his name though.
