Why does state allow 75% 3s by the opponent in every big game?

Not our night. KY just better than us on this night.
We’re realistically about a 7-8 seed in the NCAA.
Maybe we can make the Sweet 16 if we get a good draw.

It’s KY. They always… and I mean always shoot lights out against us. Feels like every time they take a shot it’s nothing but net.

We have to get points off turnovers because I don’t think we can keep up with trading shots.
I believe that we can beat any team in the country. Except UK…. And that goes for any year, any team, any coach. It doesn’t 17ing matter.

UK could pick up 5 kids from the local YMCA, and they’d all develop dragon ball Z super saiyan abilities to beat the hell out of us before losing by 20 to Drexel a week later

Well, we are ranked like 154 in 3 pt defense, so we suck at it

Because the other team has taller more athletic players.

When you know your opponent can not block your shot, you go up to shoot with a lot of confidence.
This is a lot of it. Our 3 defense wasn’t great obviously, but it was average. Most nights that would have gotten us ok results. Not good, but not bad enough to take us out of the game. But once they were rolling and knew we were getting a hand in their face but not threatening to block, it was like we weren’t even out there.

Agree with the first half

Kentucky plays really smart, unselfish disciplined basketball. Very well coached team. They are Good.

This is all true, but we did score 90. They made a ton of unreal 3 pt shots, even when we were defending. Schmidt didn't go our way, it does suck.

UK’s the #6 team, so they’re good.

They’re also 90th in the country from 3 at 35%, and if they had shot their norm from deep tonight, they would’ve lost by double digits and we wouldn’t be talking about how well coached they are. The problem is that they NEVER do anything normal against us

I knew the "oh well, they just had a lucky night shooting." Would come out. No, we have a defensive liability on the court.

Well, they've only shot this well from 3 one other time all season and they've played plenty of teams worse than us on D. So I'm gonna go with they had an unusually good shooting night, and we need to continue getting better defending the 3 line.

MSU is a fairly tall team and is an athletic team.

When UK shot poorly earlier, is that because they played against a taller and more athletic team than them?
...your reasoning doesn't hold up.

Look at it like this. KY played the best they possibly can, and still almost lost.

We played worse that unusual, with our best player in a slight slump and another key starter injured on the bench, and we still almost won.

We will win lots of games and get better. KY won't have another game like that all season. When you live and die by the 3 you die much more often than live.

Just like everyone else Ky is our kryptonite just like bama is in football. The 3pointers they made was ridiculous, not many teams will come into an opposing arena and shoot the 3 like Ky did, not many at all. Also gotta remember every player and the water boys are 5star players and are some of the best in the country. While we get some good players they are no where near the caliber of Ky. Again just like in football our caliber of players vs Bama’s caliber of players.

Re-watching. We just played poor defense. When they got hot, you have to get In their face. We continued to give them 5-6 ft cushion. You can't do that. Also we did give up some wide open looks.

We shall see how well Auburn, UT and Bama shoot the 3.

It’s specifically a Kentucky and Alabama problem. We can defend everyone else reasonably but those two programs have had Jans’ number.

If you re-watched, then hopefully you saw how quickly UK moved the ball around the perimeter during possessions where they got open looks from deep.

That isn't bad D, it's just better offense.

MSU played some really great defense- lots of blocked shots, lots of steals, and a ton of disrupting UK's offense.

But when UK was able to move the ball around in the half court, they did it quickly and accurately. That forced MSU to constantly try and close out in the open man before the shot.
Again, that isn't necessarily bad defense. Good half court offense happens when a perimeter player collapses the D, passes to someone open, and the ball moves around to the open man until there is a clean look.

Playing smaller, slower teams helps with offensive execution tremendously.

Again, we shall see how well AU, TN and Bema execute their offense v State in comparison to their season avg to date.
