I‘m not sure what the end game is Allen but Texas has held the growth and brand expansion of the Big12 back for a long time. Obviously money drives the bus but you would think the stability of the conference would hold some value. Texas just doesn’t care about their conference partners. I think the Big12 has a geopolitic need if nothing else. It has lots of tradition with two power house programs to market a brand. I believe Big12 survives. Personally I wish there would be 4 Super Conferences allowing WVU/Pitt to resurrect their glorious rivalry and partnership. Both programs are better with each other. As I’ve said to PItt Trustees, Admin, Lair members and anyone that would listen Pitt should eliminate all athletic relationships in all sports with Penn State and go arm and arm with WVU in all sports forever.
I'd say this is a lesser degree of i.e. the Big Ten changing its rules for participation in the Big Ten CCG last year when before that, Ohio State didn't meet the necessary requirements or the acc changing its CCG participant last year to have the top two teams make it in (with ND being a one and done member) in place of division winners.
Texas is more important for WVU than Pitt.

Basketball it is the #1 conference right now. No other conference has 60% of their conference as possible Sweet 16 teams
Baseball have a team that goes deep every year. Always #2 or #3. Finished #2 in the RPI this past year

Remember when Big12 stubbled and bubbled it’s way through expansion only to find out that they couldn’t expand with legit programs so they scrapped the entire idea of expansion
