Why doesn't Tebow just play Tight End?

I don't follow the NFL, so he may have already tried. I just read the Yahoo article on him probably getting cut. It's obvious he's not going to make it as a QB, so why doesn't he just play TE? Or LB/S? We all know he'd probably be good at it. Does he just not want to do it? Not want to take hits in practice? I have no clue. It could extend his NFL (and money-making) career. He's got the body of an athlete, not a QB. He can withstand it.

I don't think he could make a team playing TE. There are real TE's out there, who've played their whole career at that position, so he's not going to beat them out for a roster spot.

I'll tell you the part that gets me is all the Tebow lovers talk about what a great competitor and teammate he is. Then why not play the position that most helps your team to win? They need a tight end, and I think he could be all pro caliber, so forget what you believe, even though it goes against every QB expert at the highest level of your sport and do something to help your team.

I don't think money is an issue for him either. He can make money by being famous for being famous if he wants.

No, we don't all know he'd be a good TE, LB/S, or anything else. We know he's a good athlete and was a good college QB, but not a good NFL QB. He's never played any other position in his life, and the NFL isn't exactly an easy place to learn a new position.

why do you assume he'd be good at TE or LB/S? does he have the hands to play TE? or the blocking ability? Does he have the instincts to play LB/S? maybe he could have been a pro caliber TE/LB/S if he had spent years refining the position in college and as a backup in the NFL, but at 26, he's way behind the curve compared to guys of comparable age who have spent the better part of a decade refining their skills to be a TE/LB/S. it's a slap in the face to any of those guys that everyone even assumes tebow would just be good at their positions without years of training.

on occasion there will be a guy that makes the NFL that didn't play college ball (gates and graham at TE are 2 examples, which is why i assume everyone thinks tebow could do it), but they are bigger than tebow and much better all around athletes than tebow. and even then, it took them a few years to learn the position and become elite threats. tebow would be 28 or so by the time he'd spend a few years refining his skills and learning the position, why would a franchise coddle him along with there's 21 and 22 year olds they could invest that time and effort into instead?

Real Simple Answer

Because he didn't want to; he wanted to play QB because that's "what he plays". We'll see if Belichick can make him understand that he is a talented athlete who could possibly contribute to the team if he would take his pride out of the equation.

Fixed this for you.

And no, we won't know until he tries it. But apparently he refuses to try. That's why I asked the question. Is it his pride, or has he tried a new position and just was not good at it?
