A couple of guesses are obvious..the fact that Byrne won the showdown over Polk, LT's boy.. and possibly the fact that he went out and got a young aggressive football coach that LT probably could not have gotten or even noticed....

But one thing stood out to me as I watched the NIT game yesterday..and that was Bailey Howell's jersey hanging from the rafters. Fifty years...thirty of it on Larry's watch..Bailey Howell was not recognized in a manner that should have been done YEARS ago while he continued year after year to loyally attend MSU games and events. Byrne does it in his first year as AD. This obvious long overdue tribute that Byrne initiated probably stung LT making him look like the buffoon that he is, especially to those who were not yet aware of it.
