Why is Chris Jones not starting?

Stupid question, perhaps. I am very curious why he is not running with the 1As? This many have been discussed many times over.

Do we need a stud to anchor the 1Bs?

Is he in the Mullen dog house?

Is Mullen trying avoid Jadaveon Clowney syndrome, thus motivating Jones to work harder?

I would think the All-American would be on the starting DL. But maybe that is me and there is plenty I don't know.

Great question. I have no answer, but it's probably the same reason Redmond isn't starting as well. Seems like you would want the best players on the field at the same time in a game like this. No DB on this team is better than Redmond.

If you actually look at the crucial downs later in the game - him and Preston Smith are on the DL at the same time.

Yeah, I have noticed that. I'd love if Mullen gave Jones the start right before the game though, give him even more fire in his belly to go out and perform.

I hope my theory is right...

that Mullen has been keeping a whole bunch of s#!t up his sleeve for this game. I hope so.

I agree. I can see taking chances and getting ready early to see what you have (although some of the calls were almost disastrous - fake punt anyone??), but at this point, this game is the season. Win it and we are 99% SECW Champions. Can't screw around with this game. Put your best foot forward and let the chips falls as they will.

It seems like with a Mullen team "starting" is largely symbolic, and he thinks a lot of Kaleb Eulls' leadership.

Kaleb is also a huge space-eater who demands a lot of attention from o-line. His impact doesnt always make it on the stat sheet, but rest assured, it's not just leadership that keeps him in the starting rotation.

No doubt. I cannot be for sure on this, but I think I have noticed C. Jones take plays off from time to time. I think Mullen is having a hard time reeling him in because he's so damn good. If the light would ever click for him, and he developed leadership with his natural talent and 'charisma' so to speak, he'd be Nick Fairley dominant. Maybe better. I think he will be next season.

Read on another board that CJ was going to be full time defensive end. Anyone have any info on that?

Mullen mentioned how effective he was at DE in his press conference this week. I guess the other board interpreted that as "he's now a DE."

I wonder if we are going to go with our "elite" mix on D the first couple of drives against bama. It's important that we can withstand that 1st quarter. Bama will wear down as the game goes on.

The only counter to that point is that bama makes in game adjustments as well as anyone in the country. I'm hoping that LSU beat them up enough that their lack of stamina becomes too much that adjustments don't do much good.

I think we HAVE to jump out to a strong lead. That way we can force them to play from behind.

Stats are for losers, but through 9 games he is 17th on the team in tackles (7 tackles solo 15 asst in 9 games) and 3 sacks. Doesnt say how many snaps he's played but those stats don't just jump out at you

Stats don't tell the entire story, he seems to have a couple QB pressures every game. Those are just as important and disruptive as sacks.

Tackles are a very misleading stat to use for judging a DT. They don't even really compare to a DE when it comes to tackles. Looking at just the DTs on the team, he's second behind Eulls. He leads the DTs when it comes to hurries.

He hasn't played DT in the last 2 games. CJ and AJ were playing with Jones and Eulls at one point in the second half last week.
