Why is it a foregone conclusion on this board that

He can still make the tournament this year. Plus he has at the very least all of next year to get to the tournament and recruit potentially the best basketball recruiting class MSU has ever seen.

To say that this season hasn't been a disaster is straight sheep talk. We simply haven't been very good in basketball since 2004. Even the Rhodes/Gordon teams underachieved.

even C34 says he shouldn't be fired this year and should only be fired if we miss the tournament this year and next year.

his career at a lower tier Mississippi school has gained him enough respect. I think most people on here realize that on paper he shouldn't be fired. However, these people also watch the games and the fact that he does nothing to utilize what he has on the floor and seems pretty clueless on the offensive side of the ball. Nobody really thinks he'll be gone this year. But a lot of people do believe that based on his ability to actually coach, he shouldn't be there.

Stansbury will get fired? Do you guys really understand that the opinions about him on this board are the vast minority?

If you think that there is just a small group of people that think Standsbury constantly underachieves and can't coach offensive basketball and that they were all lucky enough to find each other online on this message board you are living in fantasyland. Most State fans I know have never thought he was a very good coach, but did admire the talent he was bringing in.

0-20 vs the RPI top 25 since 2004 speaks for itself

He may seem clueless on offense, but he's probably better defensively than most coaches who've coached in the SEC. Croom averaged about 2 wins a year out of 12. Stans has NEVER had a losing record before. I recognize this board is in the minority of wanting Stans fired which is good... The main reason so many people here want him fired is b/c of the jackass who posted right above me.

If Crxxm had done as much for MSU football as Stans has done for MSU basketball, he'd be winning national titles at Alabama today instead of Nick Saban.

...I'd wager that a good 85% of the fanbase would want him fired if

1) We miss the tourney this year and next

and

2) We miss out on the key recruits.

Basically, this is what everybody (even Hanmu) agrees on.

The belief that "something is up" with respect to Stansbury's tenure is not unfounded. Hell, over here in Birmingham there has been significant talk about Lebo's departure opening the door for Auburn to pursue Stans. This rumor is getting slight traction.

So it wouldn't be completely out of the realm of possibility that Stans is gone.

and how many always view change as bad. And also how we always hear people say- "who could we get any better? We are Mississippi State"

2 NCAA's in 6 years, with one only coming due to a lucky SEC Tourney run, should be more than enough for a change. Hell, Bammer fired Gottfried with a 12-7 record in the 3rd season after he made 5 straight NCAA Tourneys.

People want to say coaches I tout get fired, if State had the same expectations these other schools had, Standsbury would end up being gone too

And look where it got them... I'm definitely afraid. I definitely fall in the category that you are describing... I am exactly what you think I am, and you are exactly what I think you are. What we think is the correct thing to do is just completely different. I believe you wear rose colored glasses... Is it possible to fire Stans then get some bad *** coach who starts taking us to sweet 16's? yes. I don't think it's very likely though, and I just don't want to lose what we currently have in basketball which is still way more than we've had in any other major sport in a really long time... Maybe if we become awesome in football, then we can make some changes in basketball, but currently there's just nothing for me to fall back on. We lose our Western Conference Domination (as easy as y'all think it is), we have nothing left.... nothing.

one only coming due to a lucky SEC Tourney run

Exactly what about last year was lucky?? I mean damn he had a good tourney (SEC anyway) run last year. No one would deny him that. He coached well and even beat your man crushes of Horn and Trent Johnson back to back before beating Tennessee.

The thing you don't realize is that most on here want what's best for the MSU Basketball program which does not necessarily for Stans to be fired.

your way of thinking used to be valid back when the athletic department was being run by a socially reclusive, hairlipped piece of **** bean counter who refused to think progressively about anything, whether it was marketing or facilities or hiring coaches. The stench of lonnie tinkle is fading fast and the new sheriff is a kick-*** ninja.

was lucky due to the weakness of the SEC in 2009. Not one SEC team made the Sweet 16. LSU and Tennessee were the only decent teams in the league.

Did we play well in the SEC Tourney? Sure we did. But in a year of bad SEC basketball, we were lucky to get it done. A bad Georgia team did the same thing the year before- how do you feel about them? Should they have stayed with Felton longer because he won the SEC Tourney and made it into the NCAA's?

The SEC has 3 really good teams this year- along with 3 more decent ones. It will be alot harder to run the table this year

If you think the results of this season are fine, you need to do a little more homework. I believe someone said before the season started (maybe C34?) that we could win 30 games this season. And I agree with that if Bailey and Sidney would've played. Given the circumstances we still could've made a run at the SEC title. Stansburys coaching, however, lost us several games we should've won. Bottom line, he shouldn't be fired right now.

Everyone I know hopes he is gone if we miss the tourney next year, including the majorityof the Central MS Alumni Chapter (the largest Alumni Chapter that State has)

but he did a damn good coaching job in the SEC tourney last year. He and the team performed well. They beat the two best teams in the league (according to you) last year back to back. That being said this year will obviously be tougher.

Georgia the year before played well and earned Felton one more year. When they had another horrid regular season he was let go. To compare us to Felton's GA teams is laughable at best. Stans has not had a losing record yet. Stansbury had a much greater resume in the SEC than Felton. If you can't see that you are truly stupid or just have a hatred for Stansbury that no one will ever cure.

You are already on record that he should be fired next year if he doesnt make the tourney this year or next. I feel that he has earned next year and it is in our best interest for him to stay until the 2011 signing class signs regardless. I doubt there is any way either of us will change our minds.

Agree, after Stans first 3 years, "which don't count for other coaches" according to C34 b/c you have to have time to establish your program, we've been 85-59 in SEC play, good for a 60% winning percentage. That's similar toAVERAGING a record of 5-3 in the conference in football.
Also, we've only had ONE losing record in conference play the last 9 years... ONE

Now before you go and say our conference sucks to make light of what we've accomplished, b/c that's all you guys want to do (seems odd that a supposed 'fanbase' would try and discredit every accomplishment and SPIN facts to shine your own school in a negative light)
If you have a .500 or better record in ANY of the top 4-6 conferences in football, you're in a bowl. So even if we were in the fourth best conference in football, if we'd had our basketball record, we'd have been in a bowl game 8 of the last 9 years.

"99 percent of the mature (in age) $$ contributing fans who attend games, meetings, BC club, alumni assoc events are pretty satisfied with what Stansbury has done this year."

Is complete and total ********. This has been the most disappointing season of Mississippi State basketball of my lifetime. It has been easily the worst coaching job he has ever turned in. I hate when people throw out the "You're are what's wrong with our fan base" cliche, but damn...

One, if someone disagrees with a rampant thread about a coach or MSU admin, they are a "sheep".

If an opinion supports a coach or MSU admin, the issue is not discussed, the poster is simply labeled a "sheep".

In fact, now that I think about it, the only place you hear the term "sheep" is on this board.

I guess that make the frequent posters on Sixpack "Sixpack sheep".

How ironic.

Moral of the story, either agree with the blackhole opinions on Sixpack or accept the "sheep" label. Even if you never visit the "flock"

The sheep mentality is often just as bad on this board as it is on any other.

Here's the problem: 1) Your original question is based on a fallacy. I haven't seen a single person on this board say that Stans will be fired when this season is over. So, doing that makes you an easy target for criticism.

2) You lose all credibility by spewing ******** about how 99% of State fans are happy with the results of this season.

3) You then lose further credibility because you don't know what you're talking about. "If an opinion supports a coach or MSU admin, the issue is not discussed" There are plenty of Cohen worshippers on this board, and I think everyone is happy with Mullen so far. The idea that everyone on here just bashes every coach for the sake of bashing every coach is just wrong.

we weren't able to walk down the street to get a cold beer or hook up with the ladies. We had to drive to the Landing or the Crossroads or Columbus...bunch a sissies... We knew the cops by name and learned that sucking on pennies at a road block does not work. And girls wore 3 layers of sweaters giving them ample time to re-think a wandering hand...NOT the next to naked attire you nancy boys revel in on a daily basis. And we HAD no internets. In my day they gave us Rockey and made us like it!! Who were we gonna complain to?? So we now have a voice and you're gonna hear it. Had this been 1987, I would have invited you to the Landing to discuss this matter over a few games of pool and some cold ones. But I highly doubt any of you punks can play pool anyway.

thinks it is cool to go on message boards and tell people on message boards that they are stupid, are kids, are not like the rest of the real fans, don't contribute to the university like real alumni, and expects people on a message board to out their identity on the interwebs to prove a point.

did i mention the guy is on a message board making fun of people who read and post on message boards?

before the tournament. I remember people calling for Kodi all year but for whatever reason Stansbury wouldn't play him. He averaged 6 minutes per SEC contest last year but now Stansbury was forced to play him and he proceeded to light it up and we won. To me, that's luck not, coaching.
