Why is it that USC and Mich can start a true freshman QB

<span style="font-weight: bold;">"do you think that every year that the new and better quarterback will start?"
</span>no, but the QB's starting now are no D1 caliber.<span style="font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-weight: bold;">"just because Lee was not as good as a High School player as Russell means nothing once they step on the field in Starkville.</span> "
I don't care what Lee did in high school. He's not good now. How many passes get batted down? Have you looked at the stats from tonight?
<br style="font-weight: bold;"> <span style="font-weight: bold;">"the point is, if Russell isn't going to be a game changing player who will lead us to immediate victories this year, then we don't need to play him. it is called rebuilding."</span>
I agree he's not going to be a game changer. I definitely see your point on rebuilding. I just believe experience is better than sitting, especially when the current QB is a Senior that isn't getting it done. I may be wrong. I think there are examples that could be used to argue either way.

The "big time" programs are supposed to have so much talent that they redshirt guys. yet we are redshirting a guy with more talent that lee or relf. Relf can't hit the broad side of a barn and lee can't throw a pass over linemen without rolling out.
How often does this happen at Michigan and USC? Not very. Its a fluke.

I think there was 1 other Frosh at Michigan in the last decade or so? And USC...i cant remember. They have elite QBs that sit for 4 years just for the chance to play in their 5th year...so ill go ahead and say that this year for them is a fluke. It doesnt happen often, so using it as any sort of proof or evidence is pointless.

Point is, Relf and Lee aren't SEC caliber or even CUSA caliber. It can't hurt to play Russell. Now go back to the spirit and dream about your 12 win season.

If Russell isn't ready, or he isn't as good as Lee/Relf, then it would hurt to play him. You don't just burn a redshirt for the sake of burning it, unless you're talking about Arceto Clark, and then you jump all over it.

Seriously, it's probably something as simple as Barkley and Forcier being more prepared to play as true freshmen, them being better, or something along those lines. I'm guessing that if Russell was your best option, he'd be playing. Barkley and Forcier are the best options for Michigan and USC.
