Why is Lane Kiffin touted so highly?

Someone please list the incredible accomplishments he's achieved in his coaching career? I don't doubt he's a good coach, but I don't understand why everyone thinks he's the next Bobby Bowden and how he's at the top of some people's coaching lists.

well he did a hell of a job at USC as OC. He just got put into a ridiculous situation in Oakland where nobody can succeed

and USC has really fallen off the map since he left.

I'm with Sutter - I'm sure he's a good coach, but he's not the next Stan Jones or anything. I don't hold Oakland against him at all, that's for sure, but a deaf mute could've put up 40 points a game at SC with the talent he had at his disposal. We could do a lot worse than him for sure, but I don't think he should necessarily be the end-all be-all.

I never said he was the end be all, I am just saying he seems to be a pretty good coach. Even at Oakland he at least had them competitive before he was fired. Which is a lot better than before he got there

good point about Oakland, they have been more competitive. Like I said, we could certainly do a lot worse than him. He is the "type" coach I would like to see in here - younger guy, energetic. From the Jon Gruden mold. Someone with proven success at a I-A level as a coordinator or I-AA level as a head coach.

At this point, I'd take a coach who had a potent pee wee football offense. They can't be any worse than Crooms.
