Why is no one talking about Dre Jacobs

Everything about Gamecock football has seemingly been talked about on these message boards except the emergence of Dre Jacobs within our receiving unit. Guy has gone over 100 yards receiving in the last two games in spite of Mike Shula rarely calling plays to get our receivers the ball. I know you have to have some form of running game, but not getting the ball to your weapons outside is ridiculous. You got a receiver that is showing you he can make big plays and you are giving him 4-5 targets a game. Good thing he is cashing in on them. Also, targeting Nyck Harbor 2 times like they did in the last game is ridiculous. The job of an OC is to get your playmakers the ball any way you can.

Has definitely been a pleasant surprise, his game has really matured this season. Blocks well downfield too; tough kid.

Equally surprising to me has been the absence of Mazeo Bennett.

You beat me to it. I was gonna post about him today. Yes, not quite on the level of.Legette but similar in terms of basically an afterthought last year to our leading receiver this year. Target him as much as possible.

Now Bennett seems like an afterthought.

I haven't really thought about it, but this is a damn good point. Why isn't everyone raving about Dre? He is killing it right now.

Jacobs is the kind of receiver I have always envied in other programs; sells out on every play. Not afraid to go up for a ball and comes down with it when he does. As mentioned, knows how to block rather than trying to just get in the way, really attacks the defense every play. Fan focus is always on qb and ol while our receivers have gotten free passes dating back to the end of spurrier. Drives me up the wall; they make and break plays more often than is usually recognized.

I think one of the problems on offense has been that Harbor was the only wide receiver who could make plays. Having another threat should help.
