I'm admittedly not an X's and O's guy. Never have been. Why is our pass defensw ranked near the bottom in the nation?

Scheme? Talent? Obama?

Surely you know this but I will bite if you are trolling. When you are beating the hell out of team 'x' and they have no chance to get back in the game, they are forced to throw the ball. This is what has happened in virtually all of our games. Most were handled quickly and thus the other team just tried to throw themselves back into the game with some respect. Even Arkansas. They got 80 yards of passing on the last drive of the game with some damn near hail mary type throws.

Now, in these games, we had the opportunity to make plays to keep the other team from completing the passes but we haven't played the ball well in the air. Love and Cox especially (Redmond has played well outside of the UAB game). I am not worried about our pass defense. When you can get pressure rushing only 4 like we do, you should be able to cover most in the back to win games. This should be the case for us from here on.

I think it's a combination of a few factors.

I'm admittedly not an X's and O's guy. Never have been. Why is our pass defensw ranked near the bottom in the nation?

We have some guys who are playing substantial minutes after not playing a ton of big minutes the last couple years. Redmond is only in like his 19th game total, and experience is huge.

Schematically, I think it has had a lot to do with the way games have gone down. For example, the majority of LSU's passing yards were when we were playing a loose cover 4/prevent after the game should have been out of doubt, and that's not even counting the toss pass they ran in the first quarter pre-goal line stand. Similar things happened in the Texas A&M game.

To me the only major anomalies were UAB and Kentucky. In the UAB game, we were playing a team with a new coaching staff which makes game planning extremely difficult. We went into the game expecting them to really focus on running the football, and they showed they had something else up their sleeve. We were playing much more vanilla at that point, and we didn't overly adjust because we really didn't need to, and the numbers reflect that. Against Kentucky, we showed what I thought was a lot more issues. With that being said, alot of those yards could have been prevented had we executed. The first Kentucky touchdown comes to mind, which turned from no YAC with a solid tackle into a long td pass.

I think it's all a combination of these factors, and I really like our ability in the red zone. With our ability to stop the run with 5 or 6 in a box, we have a significant advantage when the field gets tight. I definitely feel like we are kind of adventure in the back end of the defense, but like some of our individual play makers and their ability to get a stop when it counts.

It's not...

when we play some combination of Love/Calhoun/Redmond (or all 3 if the situation warrants). Redmond has the potential to be All-SEC next year and Love has rebounded nicely from a shaky start to the season. Asking Tolando Cleveland to cover starting WRs for the other team isn't really ideal but the reps will come in handy next year when his role will likely be increased.

I agree, it's not just one point that's dropping us back. If you quantify success based on yards/game things get heavily skewed because of the disproportionate number of pass attempts we face each week. However, there are certainly plays to be made against our secondary. We have allowed the most plays of 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+, and 80+ yards from scrimmage this year.

I hope our secondary and LBs got some counseling after last week, because 84 abused them like a Catholic Priest at a Boy Scout Camp.

They don't love each other enough, and that's probably because we don't have anyone from Illinois to understand what it's like for Will Redmond.

I'm not sure I buy that it's because we've been winning these games. We will know in two weeks just how good or bad this secondary is.

Was aTm and auburn not a good enough challenge? I think auburn has the best set of wr's in the sec and we contained them.

No, but they have an electric wide receiver who has been making people look silly all year.

^^^ this.

Cooper is unreal, guy can turn any screen into 80yd td. We double him and we should be fine. Kiffin has found a way to move him into different positions to avoid the double team. We stop him we stop bama. I'm not really impressed with their o line or other QB. Cooper is the one man show. AJ green like

Obviously you haven't watched the game yet, when you do you will agree. A white boy humiliated us and almost single handledly won the game for them. Thank goodness he was off the field for the last play.
